National High School Top 50: May 2

As the season begins to wrap up with numerous states in state playoffs and many more starting this week, the teams at the top of the crop are beginning to crystallize. The southeast is the farthest ahead in terms of playoffs as many are in either the final four or the elite eight.

The top five loses Winder-Barrow (Ga.) following its elimination in the Georgia state playoffs but it lands at No. 40 in the updated version of the rankings. Archbishop McCarthy (Fla.) moves up one spot to No. 3 with Huntington Beach (Calif.) and Shawnee (Okla.) staying the same, at Nos. 1 and 2 respectively. Huntington Beach won the Boras Classic over the weekend.

West Monroe (La.) and Calvary Christian (Fla.) join the top five at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Calvary Christian finished off its undefeated regular season and looks ahead to the Florida state playoffs. West Monroe advanced to the final-four of the Louisiana state playoffs and looks every bit the part of one of the top five teams in the country.

Led by PG All-American Jacob Pearson, who is hitting a blistering .551 with ten home runs and 31 RBI, the offense and pitching have been clicking on all cylinders as West Monroe looks to finish off the season with a state championship.

New teams to the Top 50 include Gulfport (Miss.) at no. 32, Mill Creek (Ga.) at no. 44, and Moody (Tex.) at no. 50. Horizon (Ariz.) rejoins the Top 50, slotted in to no. 49, after being included earlier in the season.

Next week Perfect Game will not be updating the HS Top 50. Instead, the next edition will be on May 23rd. Everyone at PG is looking forward to the competitive state races nationwide and anticipate the end result as there is sure to be a ton of excellent baseball being played. Best of luck, everyone!

April 14th Perfect Game/Player of the Week: Jaquae Stewart, INF/OF, Texas State The Texas State Bobcats (24-12) are sitting in second place in the ultra-competitive Sun Belt Conference, and they have one of the most explosive offenses in the country. They average right at 8-runs per game and can slug with the best of them, averaging almost 2-home runs per game as well. Sitting in the middle of the order, Jaquae Stewart, is putting together a career year and is becoming the focus of opposing teams. PG has announced the dates for Prospect Gateway events across the country - unique opportunities for young players to receive professional feedback and prepare for the next level. The Prospect Gateways are for players ages 13U-14U and serve as a qualifier for the National Showcase.
