No. 1 Florida 12, Florida Gulf Coast 3

With so much attention being paid to Logan Shore and A.J. Puk, the Florida Gators #3 starter Alex Faedo can at times be overlooked. However, the 6-foot-5, 220 pound righty had a very impressive freshman campaign in 2015, finishing the year with a 6-1 record and 3.23 ERA while striking out 59 and walking just 16 in 61 and 1/3 innings.

After performing well in both the fall and spring practices, the sophomore showcased an impressive blend of stuff and polish to strike out a career-high seven and help the Gators sweep Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday afternoon.

Faedo established his fastball early in the game, pounding the strike zone with his heater often. The long-limbed righty has a quick loose arm, and he works though a small wrap on the backside with quality arm speed to release from a mid-3/4 arm slot. Faedo’s first pitch of the game registered 95 mph and he carried a steady fastball velocity between 92-94 mph throughout his 5 and 2/3 innings of work.

At times Faedo had issues synching his upper and lower-halves with some small inconsistencies in his trunk rotation after foot strike/landing, but those issues were far and few between. In general, he showed a very solid feel for his delivery, especially for a pitcher of his size and proportions. He was able to command the ball very well, showing an astute ability to locate his fastball to both his glove and armside while keeping the ball in the lower half of the strike zone.
