Batting Practice Highlights

6/6/2023

Brady Hester (2027 OF, Woodstock, GA) put together a good round of batting practice. The switch hitter has the same setup from both sides and showed the ability to get the barrel extended often from both sides. He showed some more pull-side strength in the left-handed swing, hitting balls hard into the right-center gap.

Harrison Milanowski (2028 SS, Dothan, AL) showed a lot to like throughout his round of batting practice. He starts in a wide stance with a simple stride out into contact. He sprayed hard liners back up the middle when in rhythm.

Aaron Best (2027 2B, Marietta, GA) starts in a slightly open stance and showed tons to build onto in the coming years as he adds strength. He has good bat speed for the age and stays balanced throughout. There's a lot here to love from this round.

Briar Persing (2027 RHP, Montgomery, PA) was on the barrel every swing of the round of batting practice. He got extended often and showed off the pull-side strength as he hit multiple balls hard into the gap. Persing stays extremely simple and compact in the load, generating some good bat speed and whip through the zone.

Amari Muhammad (2027 SS, Suwanee, GA) started off the round good as he found the barrel a few times early on and got into a good rhythm as the round went on. He has quiet hands and pulls them through hard, generating good bat speed and loft. The strength off the barrel really stood out in this round.

David Bowman (2027 MIF, Milton, GA) drove the ball to both gaps throughout the round of batting practice. He got extended often, showing advanced barrel skills and tons of strength. It's a physical frame that should continue to see the ball jump with the swing path.

Koy Frier (2027 SS, Wellborn, FL) showcased a lot to like in his round of batting practice. He has a very simple load and repeatable swing mechanics. He hit the ball hard to the pull-side throughout the round as he showed the ability to get the bat head out.

Porter Nelson (2027 RHP, Opp, AL) got into a good rhythm later on in the round and showed a lot to like. The strength was impressive as he hit multiple balls that either one-hopped the wall or hit the ball on a line, showing advanced strength off the barrel for the age.

Matthew Lazarus (2027 SS, Brookhaven, GA) hit the ball to all fields throughout the round. He has medium, even based setup with the hands set high. Simple stride out into contact and got the barrel extended early and often as he hit multiple balls deep to left field.

William Backus (2027 SS, Braselton, GA) was one of the stronger players in the event and it really showed in his round of batting practice. The hands start in a loaded position which makes the path extremely short and repeatable. He drove the ball hard to the pull-side consistently throughout the round.

Clayton Hickey (2027 3B, Green Cove Springs, FL) put on an impressive display in his round. He creates good leverage on the front side and uses it well. The knee lift trigger gives him some rhythm to the cut.

Austin Tamborra (2027 OF, Marietta, GA) was one of the more impressive rounds that we saw throughout the day. He stays super simple in the load and started off the round in good fashion as he hit the ball into the trees on his first swing. It's a super physical profile with advanced skills at the plate.

Stephen Webber (2027 C, Boyd, TX) looked good in his round of BP. He has good bat speed and has a very short barrel path to the ball. The hands start in a good position, getting the barrel into the zone early and driving the ball to both gaps.

Ethan Gilchrist (2027 SS, Raleigh, NC) starts with a wide base and showed the ability to turn the barrel over well. The bat speed stood out and he repeated the bat path well throughout the round. It's a physical build with a lot of power to project on down the road.

Aiden Bilbo (2026 OF, Dunwoody, GA) also stood out in his round. He's a tall, lean player with big power projection as he continues to fill out the frame. He has obvious feel for the barrel and the swing is super simple. He was all over the barrel throughout the round.

2-Maroon vs. 3-Orange Game Highlights

6/7/2023

Travis Sun (2027 C, Brookhaven, GA) smoked a 2B into LF to kickstart the game against Maroon. A right-handed bat, he stayed on the ball and got extended to drop it over the third baseman’s head and bring in two runs. Sun was also the first out the bullpen for orange, going through one full inning and striking out two. He sat 67-70 mph on the FB and managed his three outs with that pitch primarily.

Austin Tamborra (2027 OF, Marietta, GA) had three loud singles through the six-hole in his appearances at the plate. He’s an experienced hitter who has patiences at the plate and he worked a lot of counts to get his pitch. Tamborra’s been very successful in the box this weekend, displaying lots of athletic tendencies and projectable power despite the smaller frame. Above average hitter.

Landon Rawlins (2027 RHP, Braselton, GA) managed a multiple hit performance in today’s game, including a 3B to the RCF gap. Primarily a pitcher, the 6-foot 150-pound right-handed hitter has an athletic frame that plays in game.

David Bowman (2027 MIF, Milton, GA) was really impressive at 3B today for Maroon. He’s a strong and athletic player over at the corner, making several difficult scoops and off balanced throws. Bowman had great reads on tough hops and managed to stay fluent in his actions to first. He also put on some quality swings and had a hard grounder up the middle in later innings.

Clayton Hickey (2027 3B, Green Cove Springs, FL) put a hard liner deep into the LCF gap for a triple. The right-handed hitter presented a level swings and kept the bat head in the zone for a long enough time to shoot it pass the outfielders.

Shayne Murphy (2027 SS, Atlanta, GA) collected three hits in the matchup today with Maroon, managing two hard grounders through the infield and a 2B down third base line. Murphy displayed a sound swing with above average bat speed. The primary MIF also showed some speed on the bases as well, taking advantage of long throws and lack of urgency. Murphy made an appearance on the mound as well, showing 70-73 mph on the fastball and striking out one through one inning.

Koy Frier (2027 SS, Wellborn, FL) had a great day at the plate and on the mound for Maroon. On the bump, he lived around 78-80 mph and maxed out at 81 mph while also flashing a hard spinning slider with spin rates around 2300 consistently. Frier scattered three strikeouts across two innings with an impressive arsenal. Offensively, he brought in three total RBIs and also put an inside-the-park home run in the scoring books from a hard line driven to the back side.

Andrew Rice (2027 OF, Cumming, GA) put a double in the scoring books with a long fly to RF. Rice is a tall, lean RHH with an athletic stroke at the plate. He has a middle away approach and fills the box well making the inner half of the zone inaccessible.

William Backus (2027 SS, Braselton, GA) is a strong RHH who peppered two singles and a double in game. He has a strong lower half and a whip barrel, consistently making hard contact and getting in scoring position. Backus didn’t hesitate to showcase the speed and defensive abilities as well.

Matthew Lazarus (2027 SS, Brookhaven, GA) had two singles in today’s contest, putting on a good hitting display. The primary MIF notched a hard grounder to the third and hustled out an infield single, adding a double to CF later in the game. Lazarus has a level swing with quick hands and the tools will continue to develop as he matures and polishes his skills.

Hogan Overby (2027 SS, Oxford, MS) had two knocks to the pull side versus Maroon. He portrayed a good feel for the zone and selectively attacked his pitch. The LHH has a swift bat and leans hard on the backside, but shifts it fluently in time to make good contact. Overby also made some impressive plays in the field, lengthening the list of tools for the young athlete. Power and athleticism will come with time and elevate the ceiling for the MIF.

4-Purple vs. 1-Gray Game Highlights

6/7/2023

Ethan Gilchrist (2027 SS, Raleigh, NC) peppered a hard grounder to the right side and laced a 2B in the RCF gap in today’s game against Gray. He put the speed on display as well, switching gears to swipe bases and beat the relay. Gilchrist showcased an array of tools, making solid plays defensively and presenting potential power at the plate. He also made an appearance on the mound, sitting 83-85 mph on the FB and spinning the CB around 68 mph. The right-hander managed two strikeouts and no hits in his full inning of work.

Carson Bryant (2027 OF, Piedmont, SC) sprayed the strike zone with a highly deceptive arsenal out of the bullpen. The RHP has a low 3/4 quarters arm slot and kept hitters off balance with the FB sinking and coming in around 78-80 mph. Bryant mixed in a slider from time to time, typically working it to the glove side around 69 mph.

Brady Hester (2027 OF, Woodstock, GA) put a great swing on in inner half breaking ball, smoking a 2B down the RF line. He has a good feel for the barrel, carrying his great swings over into today’s game. Hester has a hitters mindset, knowing his zone and hunting the fastball. The LHH mashed an inside-the-park home run in later innings, showcasing the power and speed. He delivered quality at-bats and swings throughout the game and proved there is a lot to like from his skillset.

Jonathan Wise (2027 C, Brunswick, GA) took the mound today in relief for Purple. The lengthy RHP went through two innings, striking out four and allowing only two hits in his appearance. Wise ranged 70-74 mph on the fastball and flashed a side arm angle for the CH around 69 mph. Wise was also impressive behind the dish and at the plate as well.

Sven Gehrig (2027 C, Milton, GA) pitched well in his outing today, going through two clean innings and allowing no earned runs or hits. The RHP worked 73-76 on the fastball, topping out at 77 mph. It was difficult for hitters to pick up on the arm side run and the tunneling of the CB in the low 60s.

Reid Bogart (2027 C, Unicoi, TN) performed well behind the plate and had quality at-bats at the plate in today’s game. The primary catcher showed fluent actions and cleans transactions into the throws. Bogart has a fundamental swing and had a lot of good contact throughout today’g game.

3-Orange vs. 4-Purple Game Highlights

6/6/2023

Spencer Leftoff (2027 OF, Dunwoody, GA) performed well offensively and defensively in today’s matchup between Orange and Purple. The left-hander commanded the zone with 74-76 mph on the FB, and periodically mixing in a breaking pitch around 63 mph. Leftoff went through two innings for team purple. Striking out three and only surrendering one hit. He also made an impact in the outfield, successfully tracking down a long hit ball in the LCF gap. On the other side of the ball, he showed aggressiveness in the box and proved that his speed is no exception to his tools. Leftoff put an infield 1B in the scoring books adding on to skillset on the field.

Aiden Bilbo (2026 OF, Dunwoody, GA) put all the tools on display today. He started his evening with an inside-the-park home run on a screeching liner into the RCF gap. The bat speed and power are present, and he showed off the wheels making it all the way home standing up. Bilbo sports a long, athletic frame at 6-foot and 155 pounds. The RHH looks the part in the box and the tools play in game.

Halen Bennett (2026 SS, Cartersville, GA) pitched well in the relief spot for Purple. He danced around the zone with 77-81 mph while also flashing a CB around the high 60s. Bennett has a wiry 6-foot-1, 155-pound figure that he uses advantageously to work downhill on the mound. He gave an efficient outing out the bullpen going two innings with a strikeout and only allowing one earned run. As Bennet fills out his frame and matures with experience, he could find himself to be a high value arm.

Austin Tamborra (2027 OF, Marietta, GA) put a charge into a pitch to muscle a triple into deep LF. The RHH presented power beyond his frame and a lot of athletic tendencies in the stroke. The lower half is strong and based, cleanly transitioning momentum to the frontside for lots of pop out front. Tamborra is a good athlete with sound actions both offensively and defensively.

Chase Peck (2027 SS, Roanoke, VA) held the closing position and did not make it easy for opposing batters. The right-hander was 72-75 mph on the fastball, traditionally controlling the outer halves of the plate. He finished his outing going through two full innings allowing only one hit with four strikeouts.

Jonathan Wise (2027 C, Brunswick, GA) delivered a multiple hit performance today with two singles in his three at-bats. He found gaps and made contact with some tough swings. The 6-foot, 150-pound primary catcher produced defensively as well, catching a runner stealing with clean actions behind the dish.

1-Gray vs. 2-Maroon Game Highlights

6/6/2023

Brady Hester (2027 OF, Woodstock, GA) put together a multiple-hit performance, consistently putting on efficient swings and takes. He portrayed some barrel control in his first plate appearance, dropping a line drive in the LCF gap. The LHH looks the part in the box and showed feel for the barrel on sporadically located pitches. Hester hustled out an infield single in the next at-bat with a slow roller to 1B, putting the speed on display.

Porter Nelson (2027 RHP, Opp, AL) displayed advanced pitch ability coinciding with a projectable frame from the mound. The 6-foot, 165-pound right handed pitcher sits momentarily in at the balance point and delivers firm pitches, traditionally high on the hands. Scattering the zone, Nelson showed the FB at 75-78 topping 79 mph  and occasionally spun the CB around 67 mph. He competed around the zone and battled in tough spots, managing a pair of punch outs in just over two innings of work.

Briar Persing (2027 RHP, Montgomery, PA) had a great showing today in the starting role for gray, cruising through three full innings and punching out six. The RHP produced a lot of swings-and-misses and weak contact, putting a true two pitch mix to work. Persing lived around 78-81 mph with consistency in the zone, posting 80 percent strikes. The CB made for a highly compatible secondary pitch, coming in around the low 70s and missing barrels. Persing also put a 1B in the books offensively, peppering a hard liner into RF.

Andrew Rice (2027 OF, Cumming, GA) came out the bullpen in relief for Maroon posing a threat for opposing batters. The primary RHP posted three strikeout within his two innings, giving the FB at 71-73 and capping at 74 mph. The fastball would run and sink, making the changeup an even more deceptive and effective pitch. CH was flashed at around 69 mph and the CB was shown in the low 60s, assisting him in finishing with no earned runs and no hits allowed.

Hatcher Myrick (2028 OF, Fairhope, AL)made an impact at the plate in today’s game against Maroon. The 5-foot-7 primary outfielder was scrappy in the box, flashing some advanced hitting ability. Myrick holds a smaller frame, but accounts for it in athleticism and coordination. He showed ability to hit to all fields, collecting three hits in competition. Myrick showed a middle-away approach recording two singles to RF and a line drive 1B to left.

Koy Frier (2027 SS, Wellborn, FL) scorched a 2B in the LCF gap today following up an impressive BP round. He imposes a real presence in the box and is very apparently experienced/comfortable in hitter’s counts. Frier stays square in the box, rotating hard on the hips and generating above average bat speed. The ball jumps off his bat which compliments his repeatable swing and high power potential. He also didn’t hesitate to cause commotion on the bases, showing off the speed and stealing bases to get into scoring position. High ceiling athlete.

Andrew Slater (2027 1B, Acworth, GA) managed two hits in the game today against Gray. At 6-foot, 160-pounds, the RHH presented fundamentally sound motions in the swing. He keeps the barrel in the zone for a long duration, putting him at an advantage using good pitch selection. Slater hit to the corners, pushing a liner into LF and squeezing a hard grounder through the 4-hole in his first two at-bats.

David Bowman (2027 MIF, Milton, GA) impressed on both sides of the ball today. The primary MIF went through two innings, striking out four batter with no runs or hits allowed. He commanded the FB at 76-79 mph, topping out at 80 mph with arm side run. Bowman battled in the zone and mixed in a CB around 62 mph for a secondary arsenal. He was dominant when accurate and kept hitters off balance using the leverage down the mound. In the box, he’s a physically framed athlete who flashes the power with very present bat speed. The hands and hips work in coordination and were key elements to some of the great swings he put on in today’s game.
