2012 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Tyler Stephenson is a 2015 C/RHP/1B with a 6-4 205 lb. frame from Kennesaw, GA who attends Kennesaw Mountain HS. Extra large athletic build, very strong with plenty of room to get stronger. Top level arm strength behind the plate, good transfer and release, light on his feet for his size, 1.90 best pop time, hopefully will not outgrow the catching position. Right handed hitter, open stance, doesn't get fully closed, gets to front side, hits balanced and under control, stays short and inside the ball almost to an exaggerated degree, has power potential to release with a longer approach but is a high contact/high average hitter at present. Also pitched, low 3/4's arm slot, easy arm action and fluid delivery, fastball to 83 mph with lots of arm side run, pounds the lower half of the zone, short breaking slider, developing change up, has some potential on the mound. Stands out physically and has the athleticism to keep improving. Very good student, verbal commitment to Georgia Tech. Named to the Top Prospect Team.
