Cooper Newby is a 2027 C/3B with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Southlake, TX who attends Southlake Carroll. Primary C with a taller athletic build with some present strength and more to come. Two knee slight side setup. Gains minimal ground through the plate. Made throws to the bag with accuracy and good strength behind them from a quick transfer and release with shorter arm action. Receives it deep at times. Recorded a 1.94 pop time and was up to 73 from behind the dish. 6.89 runner in the sixty, runs very well for a primary catcher. Left-handed hitter with a narrow upright base. Low elbow and low handset. Small stride into contact. Hands stay still on the load with good rhythm and showed impressive young bat speed rotating well at the top half of things while getting into his lower half. Could clear hips well with a quality middle of the field approach but uses all gaps well. Right-handed hitter with an upright narrow base and low elbow and hands. Uses the opposite field well with authority from the right side and could launch it. Power projects more than anything on the right side. Looked like the better hitter from the left side. Excellent student. Named to the Lone Star Showcase Top Prospect List.
