2024 West Academic Showcase (Tues-Wed)
Ivan Utz is a 2026 1B/RHP, SS, OF with a long, athletic 6-2 180 lb. frame from Buckeye, AZ who attends Verrado HS. Started off the event clocking a fast 6.73 60-yard dash. A primary first baseman who pitched as well. Utz demonstrated he has solid footwork around the bag and kept his throws on target at 86 mph during his defensive reps at first base. Fields the ball in the middle with soft hands and was able to deliver the ball crisply with his double play feeds to second base. Also worked out as a pitcher and showed fundamentally sound mechanics with a repeatable delivery. Features a 2-pitch mix running the fastball to 80 mph and dropped in curveball at 68 with 11-5 shape. A right-handed hitter with a wide base and a high back elbow. He was rotational with his lower half with some strength in his hands. Employed a pull approach and squared the ball up with some consistency in his BP round. Good student.
