Baseball Instructor Bios:

Kevin Schuver:  Hitting and catching instructor- Kevin was a two time first team all-state catcher at Marion High School as well as a 3 time all-conference and all-district performer. Kevin posted a .527 batting average that is tied for the highest in school history for a single season. Kevin went on to play college baseball at Kirkwood Community College and Coe College. While at Coe, Kevin was a two time all-conference player as well as an all-region player his senior year. Kevin coached 8 season as an assistant baseball coach at Marion High School as well as 2 seasons as an assistant at Coe College. Kevin currently serves as the National Scouting and Showcase Coordinator for Perfect Game. Kevin resides with his wife Katelynn and daughter Paisley in Cedar Rapids.

Jason Piddington:  Jason has 12 years experience working with pitchers: first as an Assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville followed by a Head Coaching Stint at Dubuque Wahlert High School. After two years at Wahlert, Piddington returned to the college ranks with a year at Lincoln Trail Community college and two years at Western Texas Junior College. At Lincoln Trail, Jason oversaw a pitching staff that led the conference in ERA and won the regular season championship. After joining Perfect Game full time in 2009, he began giving private lessons. Jason had 2 former players (Nick Kirk-Wahlert & David Arnold-LTC) go on to play professional baseball.

Chris Brown:  Chris attended high school and Junior College in Texas before being drafted by the Houston Astros in 2001. Chris enjoyed 2 seasons with the Astros organization before being injured during the 2003 season. Over the next nine years Chris then performed several MLB team camps and clinics. Chris brings a plethora of arm strength and agility drills to Perfect Game along with his extensive experience working with all levels of players.

Steve James:   Steve is a graduate of Cedar Rapids Washington High school and was a starting pitcher for the Warriors on their 1999 and 2000 teams that finished 3rd in class 4A. He was named Honorable Mention All-State, All-Conference, All-District, and All-Metro teams his senior year. Steve pitched collegiately at Kirkwood Community College and Coe College. Steve has 10 years of experience at Perfect Game as a pitching instructor, scout, and coaches PG Iowa Select Teams. Since 2005, Steve has coached over 100 Division 1 players and more than 30 draft picks including 2nd rounders’ Mitch Keller, Alec Rash, and Kellen Sweeney as well as 1st Rounders' AJ Puk and Jon Gilmore.

Brian Dinkelman: Brian is currently the hitting coach for the Cedar Rapids Kernels. He is a native of Centralia, Illinois and went to school at Centralia High School and McKendree University before being drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 8th round of the 2006 MLB Draft. Brian enjoyed 6 seasons within the Twins minor league system before being called to the major league Twins in 2011. In 2013 Brian ended his playing career. Brian brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Perfect Game and has worked with many hitters who are playing at the next level. He currently resides in Cedar Rapids with his wife Randi and daughter Sydney.

Jake Stolley: Jake graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 2012, receiving All-State Baseball Honors and helped lead the team to a state tournament berth that year. Jake walked on at Northwestern in his sophomore year and experienced great success in the Big Ten over his three seasons on the team, finishing as one of the top relievers in 2015 with an ERA of 2.98. After graduating from Northwestern with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Jake was signed by the Windy City Thunderbolts of the independent Frontier League, where he expects to continue his career in the summer of 2017. Jake currently resides in Marion.

Larry Mims: Larry graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington in 1982, receiving 1st Team All-State honors twice in his junior and senior season. He attended Indian Hills CC and was drafted four times while playing for the Falcons. Freshman year, Larry was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds (twice) in the Winter Draft in the 11th round and again in the Summer Draft in the 4th round. As a Sophomore at Indian Hills, Larry was drafted in the 1st round by the New York Mets during the Winter Draft and again in the Summer Draft by the Detroit Tigers in the 5th round. After declining to sign contract offers to pursue educational goals, Larry signed with the University of Nebraska. As a Cornhusker, Larry was a two time All- Big 8 selection at short stop and a two time All- Big 8 All Academic choice. After his senior year, Larry was drafted for the 5th and final time in the 9th round of the 1986 Summer draft by the Baltimore Orioles, where he would eventually sign. Larry played 3 1/2 seasons of Minor league ball mainly at the single A and double AA with a Triple A call-up at the end of the his 1st full season of A ball. After being traded to the Padres organization and playing for a season, he was injured and retired. After his playing career, Larry became a Police Officer and worked extensively in the community to help promote baseball as means to further education. Larry has coached youth baseball for over 10 years in the Colorado area and has been offering private hitting and baseball skills lessons for over 20 years. Larry currently resides in Cedar Rapids.

Jessy Gutwiler: Jessy currently coaches the Perfect Game 14u team and is the director for the league of Dreams program, giving underprivileged kids a chance to play baseball. In his playing career, Jessy was a 4-year letter winner at North Cedar High School, playing shortstop. Jessy brings a wealth of hitting and fielding knowledge to Perfect Game and works well with players of all ages and skill levels. Jessy currently resides in Cedar Rapids.

Tim Evans: Currently a scout for the Cleveland Indians, Tim has held various similar positions under the Houston Astros since 1996, where he finished his playing career. Evans played for Houston Astros in 1995, coming up through the minor leagues with the Jackson Generals, Tucson Toros and Osceola Astros. Evans played for the Houston Astros in 1995, coming up through the minor leagues for the Astros with the Jackson Generals, Tucson Toros and Osceola Astros clubs. He also played for the Quad City River Bandits in 1993, earning a Midwest League All-Star berth.After ending his playing career, he began his college coaching career as an assistant at Kirkwood from 1996 to 2000. He also served as pitching coach for the Waterloo Bucks in 1997 and 1998 under now University of Louisville Recruiting Coordinator/Assistant Coach Eric Snider. Evans spent time as an assistant coach at Iowa State under head coach Lyle Smith from 2000 to 2001, helping the Cyclones to a Big 12 tournament appearance before the University dropped their baseball program. He then accepted a position at the University of Iowa from 2001 to 2003 under Scott Broghammer. During his tenure at Iowa, the Hawkeyes made their first Big Ten Tournament appearance in 13 seasons. Tim is Prarie High School Graduate and currently resides in Cedar Rapids.

Mike Brown: Mike has been with giving lessons for baseball hitting & pitching and softball hitting since 2013. Mike was a two time all-conference first baseman at Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids and played a season of college baseball at Winona State (MN) University. Mike currently works for a computer software company in Cedar Rapids as a Consultant.  He plays fast pitch softball in the Cedar Rapids Minor Open Fast Pitch league, along with playing in several state and national tournaments.  He also plays baseball in the Eastern Iowa Adult Baseball League.


Softball Instructor Bios:

Cate Simon: Softball Hitting Instructor. Cate is a graduate of Truman State University where she was a two-time All-GLVC and All-Midwest Region third baseman. A career .345 hitter, Simon finished her playing career with 36 homeruns and 107 RBIs. Simon was part of the 2017 NFCA Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the year helping lead the USI Screaming Eagles to their first ever NCAA II Midwest Region title and appearance in the NCAA II Championship Series.

Shannon Aguero: Softball Hitting Instructor. Shannon is from Muscatine, Iowa where she was involved in a number of high school activities, including softball.  She was a four year varsity starter and two year team captain.  Her team appeared in two State softball tournaments throughout her career.  Amongst other All-Conference and All-District Honors, she was voted Second Team All-State 4A catcher in 2005 and First Team All-State 4A catcher in 2006 and 2007.  She continued her softball career at Kirkwood Community College and Coe College.  She also enjoys coaching softball.  Shannon coached at Muscatine for two years and has been the Fresh/Soph Coach at Linn-Mar high school since 2010.

Kristen Winter: Softball Hitting Instructor. Kristen is a graduate of Xavier High School and Luther College. In college, she played 2 years at Kirkwood Community College and finished her playing career at Luther College as a second basemen. She currently is an assistant softball coach at Xavier High School and has experience coaching college aged players as well, as an assistant coach at Kirkwood Community College in the Spring of 2016. Kristen graduated from Luther College with a degree in Elementary Education and currently is a 5th and 6th grade teacher at LaSalle Middle School in Cedar Rapids.

 Cage rentals for individuals are prohibited. Cages are available on a first come first serve basis. We do not reserve cages. Cages are only held for pre-approved PG affiliated lessons. Attempting to hold a cage or reserve a cage on your own is strictly prohibited and can result in a forfeiture of membership.

Individual Lessons Policy

Effective as of MARCH 1, 2017

Any and all coaches, trainers or non-custodial adults must be pre-approved to give private lessons at the Perfect Game Indoor Hitting Facility.


Each person is required to comply with these guidelines:

1.  A background check must be submitted to our Risk Manager.  If you do not have one you must go to this link https://opportunities.averity.com/PerfectGameInc  
 
2. Complete the requested information and pay the $25 cost for the check.  All information is secured and private and will not be shared outside of the Risk Manager.  Adverse reports will be reviewed with the adult prior to action being taken.  All decisions made by the Risk Manager will be final.
 
3. At NO TIME will an adult be allowed to accompany a non-custodial minor into a restroom.
 
4. At NO TIME will an adult be allowed to be alone with a non-custodial minor in any room or semi-private or private location within our facility.
 
5. Perfect Game Inc. affords NO liability insurance or accident medical insurance to coaches, trainers,teams or team managers who use our facility.   
 
6. All facility usage fees must be scheduled and paid for in advance
