Aaron Jones just continues to hit this weekend with an RBI double in his first at bat of the game. Jones has easy pop and looks very comfortable in the box.  He is smooth swing leads to consistent contact at the plate.

Jaiden Turner swung it well today with an RBI double down the right field line.  Turner was able to fight off a good two strike pitch and take the ball the other way.  Turner has a solid build and easy power.  Turner is an exciting guy to watch play. Turner also came in to throw an inning on the mound.  He sat 80-82, topping at 83

Justin Lavine fared well through his three innings of work.  Lavine struck out 6 and attached the zone early. He has a smooth and repeatable delivery.  Lavine standing at a solid 6'2 as a 2026 grad, I see a guy who can quickly add velocity and develop as he matures. Lavine sat mid 70s with a fastball topping out at 79.

Ian Haines continues to impress with a single that he stretched into a double because of his great hustle.  Haines has a good approach to every pitch and looks very comfortable in the box.  He kept his hands back well on a slider that he took the other way.  Haines can run the bases extremely well including a straight steal of home.  Haines is non-stop hustling around the field and is a flat-out gamer.

James Chrobocinski came in for three shutout innings today. Through his three innings he tallied 5 strikeouts. His fastball was sitting 74-77 while topping at at 78 (2100 spin), while his off speed was 64-66 (1900 spin).  Being a 2025 grad and 6'4, he has plenty of room and time to fill out his frame and grow as a pitcher.

Chandler Smith came through for his team today with a solid RBI single to right center.  Smith had a great two strike approach and didn't try to do too much.  Smith went with the outside fastball he was given and drove the ball the other way.  He showed solid bat speed and quick hands.

Tapio Niemoija showed well on the mound today. Tapio was up to 81 on the fastball, but the pitch to watch was his breaking ball sitting in the low 70s with 2000+ spin.  Through his three innings of work, he struck out 3 and was attacking the zone early. Tapio also had a solid single back up the middle today to help himself out.

Carter Daly played well today on the mound.  Through his three innings of work Daly stuck out 4 and seemed to be in a solid rhythm the whole day. His fastball was topping out at 81 and his off speed was a sharp slider with a little over 2200 spin.  As a 2025 grad, I expect to see Carter fill out his frame a little more and add some velocity as he matures.

Aaron Jones picked up right where he left off yesterday with another well hit single back up the middle. Jones comes to the plate with a great approach and plan.  He has a smooth and easy swing resulting in consistent hard contact.

Jaxen Maxey with easily the hardest hit ball of the game today, with a screaming line drive to left.  Maxey consistently puts the ball in play with authority.  As a 2026 grad Maxey has a frame that has plenty of room to fill out and grow.  I expect to see him grow into a solid player.

Charles Pearce had a great showing on the mound today. Through his three innings of work he struck out 5.  His fastball was 80-83 while topping out at 85mph with a 2300 spin rate.  Pearce's off speed was is also solid, with his slider in upper 60s at 2100 spin rate.  Offensively Pearce showed he can swing the bat effectively as well.  He had a hard line drive for a single to left on an inside fastball.  Pearce has quick hands with natural pop off his bat.

Matthew Kosderka with a dominating outing on the mound today.  Through his three innings of work Kosderka gave up zero hits and struck out 9.  Kosderka's strikeout pitch was a very sharp 11-5 curveball with 2400 spin.  Kosderka's fastball was sitting 85-87 and topping at 88. As a 2024 grad, he has room to grow and add some more velocity.  He could be a very interesting player next summer.

Declan Rivero with a solid two-way performance tonight. Offensively Delan had nice line drive back up the middle and a stolen baseball.  He continued to show his ability to put the ball in play with authority.  On the mound he went 6 up 6 down in his two innings of work while striking out 2. He filled up the zone well and worked ahead of hitters, fastball topping out at 79.

Hunter Beck with an impressive outing today on the mound.  Beck with a side arm / submarine arm slot creates very uncomfortable at bats for hitters.  Beck forces a lot of ground balls and lets his defense work. Beck isn't afraid to make some plays himself, as he showed the ability to field his position well.  Topping at 79 Beck has room to grow to add some more velocity as well.

Chanz Flores had a solid two-way performance with a single and a good showing on the mound. Flores really shined on the mound today.  Through his 3 innings of work Flores struck out 7.  Flores was up to 85 with a very sharp breaking ball. The curve seemed to be his strike out pitch and kept hitters off balance.

Chandler Smith made his way into the blog with an impressive ground rule double. Smith got an elevated fastball and didn't miss it, getting his hands through the zone with ease.  Smith ran the bases well, making good reads on balls in the dirt to take extra bases.  Smith seems to have easy power. On the mound Smith fared well on the mound as well striking out one in his one inning of work.

Jaxen Maxey came in for one inning of work on the mound today, striking out all three hitters he faced.  Topping out at 82 as a 2026 grad Maxey has plenty of room to grow and add on some velocity to his arsenal.  Maxey also possesses a solid slider with some depth to it.

2022 Southwest Prospect Showcase Batting Practice Highlights

10/29/2022

Ian Haines (2024, Buckeye, AZ) impressed in his round with good intent to the pull side and solid contact. He met the barrel consistently and showed real bat-to-ball skills that can develop and mature.

Federico Tiburtini (2023, ITA) was a loud showing with good bat speed and quickness in the path. It's a solid right-handed swing with hips and hands that fire well through contact. Solid athleticism in the box and it shows.

Declan Rivero (2024, Palmdale, CA) worked the barrel to all fields with solid contact in his round. Good extension out front with a cleaner finish. Works his backside well and showed opposite field juice the other way. Physical stick who impressed.

Michael Deitz (2023, NV) showed some loud pull-side strength in his round. The strength and physicality shows up. Hips rotate hard with big strength to the LCF gaps. Sprayed hard and power should really develop and project as he continues to develop.

Will Goodman (2025, Bend, OR) showed great feel for the barrel, making consistent contact to all fields. Works it out front with good extension. Sound hands through the zone and ease to the path brings a lot to like going forward.

Jaxen Maxey (2026, AZ) has an athletic look to him in all facets and it really showed in his round. Good bat speed with hands that really fire on a tight turn. Lean frame with more room to fill out. Good components to path and showed up in a big way.

Evan Winton (2026, Cactus Heights, AZ) showed good feel for the barrel and found hard liners up the middle. Good hands that work quick through the zone. Matches plane and manipulates the angle of barrel well.

Adin Oeltjen (2024, Phoenix, AZ) was an enticing look in his round, a switch hitter with loud impact to both gaps. Bat speed, as hips and hands fire hard with a whippy finish to barrel. Gets into legs and shows lots to like.

Jackson Pfister (2025, Centennial, CO) has intent to the opposite field with good strength that way. Works and incorporates both halves with solid backside juice. Showed solid intent and pop that projects.

Liam Schilling (2025, Broomfield, CO) showed tighter pull-side turns with good intent in his round. The bat speed and comfort in the box stood out for a younger age and there's some athletic traits in the frame.

Kevin Sanchez (2023, Las Vegas, NV) has loud strength and sprayed balls hard to both gaps. Plenty of intent and uncoils well with strength. Blend of bat speed and pop as the hands and hips fire at once. Very solid round.

Cooper Frisbie with a solid 3 innings of work today.  Topping at 84 while sitting 80-83 throughout his outing. Cooper possesses plus off speed with a slider and curveball.  Cooper tallied 4 strikeouts during his outing.  Being a 2024 grad, Cooper has room to fill out his frame and potentially add a few more miles per hour over the next year.

Ian Haines with a very impressive night behind the plate.  Haines caught 2 runners stealing. Haines showed plenty of hustle, running down the line after every ground ball. Haines also received the ball really well, stealing a few strikes for his pitcher.

Jaiden Turner came in for one inning of work on the mound but showed plenty of potential.  Turner has a very effortless and repeatable delivery, sitting low 80s and topping at 84.  In his one inning of work he struck out the side and worked ahead of every batter.

Declan Rivero smashed a double to left center on an inside fastball. Rivero has smooth hands and easy pop off his barrell.
