(Alec Dopp) - East Cobb Twins ran its record to 5-0-0 at the 2014 17u National Championship Qualifier with an 8-5 victory over Elite Baseball Club 17u - Rice Tuesday afternoon at McEachern High School. Danny Price (2015, Norcross HS, GA) contributed to East Cobb's key first inning, doubling on a line drive to right field -- a hit that generated a run, sent one runner to third base and eventually led to his only run scored of the game. East Cobb starting pitcher Wade Cox (2015, Greater Atlanta Christian HS, GA) didn't allow an earned run to cross home and conceded just two base hits over his three innings of work. East Cobb Twins win on 7th inning balk 3-2

6/16/2014

In an excellent pitchers duel, The East Cobb Twins and PBC Gameday Elite went down to the wire. With the score tied at 2-2, the Twins got a lead off double from Lukas Boudreau (2015, Greater Atlanta Christian School, GA), then sacrificed him to third, and he came in to score on a balk with two outs.

Their offense earlier in the game came off the bat of Emanuel Long-Hesse (2015, Norcross HS, GA) who launched a two-run homer in the second inning. The 6'0 175 pound righty has some serious thump in his bat, as the ball jumps off his bat with raw power and a patient hitting approach. Long-Hesse has a fluid stroke with a quick bat, leverage in his swing, strong wrists and lift in his swing as well. Danny Price (2015, Norcross HS, GA) singled and scored in three trips, Doug DeBoer (2015, Greater Atlanta Christian School, GA) singled, and Brendan Abernathy (2015, Wesleyan HS, GA) singled as well.

Trey Nelson (2014, Norcross HS, GA) was very efficient on the mound, throwing a complete game on just 75 pitches. He did not walk anyone, struck out six, and surrendered a pair of runs on five hits, a hit by pitch and wild pitch. The 6 foot, 165 pound right hander sat 75-78 mph with his fastball, peaking at 79 mph with arm side run or cut to it with life. He's aggressive with it, keeps it down and knows when to elevate it. His go-to breaking ball was a 67-71 mph slider with good depth to it, tight rotation, and the ability to throw it to both sides of the plate. He also showed a 71-73 mph change up that flashed potential with good arm side run and he maintained his arm speed. Nelson has a smooth, online delivery with sound mechanics, good hip rotation, and solid arm action with good extension out front. He's got a quick arm from a high 3/4 arm slot, sets up hitters, changes speeds, and has mound presence. He's a competitor on the mound and knows how to pitch.

Blake Selogy (2015, Seminole Ridge Community HS, FL) handled all the pitching for PBC Gameday Elite, going all seven innings with five punch outs, one walk, five hits, and three runs allowed. He gave up the long ball to Long-Hesse and also balked twice. The 5'10 180 pound lefty sat 73-76 mph with the fastball, running it up to 77 mph with life and three different looks with arm side run, cut, and sink. He has good command of the heater, is aggressive with it and can elevate when the time is right. Selogy comes from a high 3/4 arm slot with a long arm circle in back, projectable stuff, and good polish. He effectively pitches inside, throws strikes to both sides of the plate, and knows how to pitch and keep batters off balance. The go-to off speed pitch for Selogy was his slider, coming in at 66-69 mph with good depth to it, good command, tight rotation, and he can throw it to both sides of the plate.

Harley Sanicky (2015, Palm Beach Gardens HS, FL) was the spark plug on offense, knocking a triple, single, RBI and scored a run, also getting hit by a pitch. He's got all the attributes scouts love as he's seen as a scrappy gamer with a high baseball IQ, tons of energy, and instincts on the field. His twin brother Hunter Sanicky (2015, Palm Beach Gardens HS, FL) is a similar type player and was 1-3 with a single and a run scored. Nick Hernandez (2015, Jupiter HS, FL) singled in two at bats and Rudy Viton (2015, Cardinal Newman HS, FL) drove in one on a single.

For the Grays, leadoff hitter Luis Arias (2015, Salesian HS, NY) went 2-3 with a run scored and one stolen base.  D. For the Padres, Mathews sparked the offense, by going 2-3 at the palte with a homerun, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.  JaKareon Williams (2016, Sprayberry HS, GA) made an appearance in the game on the mound, pitching just 0.2 of an inning, but displayed a fastball that topped out at 85 mph.

6/15/2014

South Florida starter Frankie Corridora (2015, Westminster Academy, FL) allowed two first inning RBI doubles as the Breakers quickly fell behind 2-0 but the offense would recover the lead in the bottom half of the inning scoring four times to take a 4-2 lead. Corridora would handle the rest from there, not allowing another run for the rest of the contest as the Breakers would go on to defeat the Texas Dynasty-Yount 5-2.

Corridora was a gamer on the mound competing threw out the entire contest as he would fall one out short of throwing the complete game as he was pulled with two outs in the seventh inning as his pitch count climbed over 90 pitches. His two off-speed offerings, a slider and change, were crucial in keeping hitters off balance throughout the game and to keep them from squaring up his low 70's fastball. The right-hander finished with allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out two.

Bulldogs Score Early and Often

6/15/2014

The East Cobb Bulldogs jumped out to an early 8-0 lead utilizing two key doubles by Bradley Davidson (2015, Whitefield Academy, GA) and Jake Wiley (2014, Fellowship Christian, GA). The lead led to an easy 11-3 win over the Kentucky Halos on Sunday. The early offense would be plenty of support for Bulldogs starter Alex Krakau.

Krakau (2015, Blessed Trinity Catholic, GA) threw four perfect innings, striking out five using mostly fastballs that sat 77-81 mph. His main secondary offering was an upper 60's change.

Davidson, Michael Burlas (2014, Fellowship Christian, GA) and Braden Zarbnisky (2015, Pope, GA) recorded two hits apiece in the win for the Bulldogs.

Elite Picks Up Close Win

6/15/2014

Brice Stockton's two-run double in the second inning proved to be just enough offense to lift the Elite Baseball Club to a 2-1 win over PBC Gameday Elite. Stockton (2015, Anderson County, KY) lined a 1-0 pitch to right field scoring Jacob Frazier (2015, Madison Central, KY) and Griffin Hotchkiss (2015, Madison Central, KY) to give Elite an early 2-0 lead. The lead would hold up through the rest of the contest as starter Alex Daniel would allow only a third inning RBI bases-loaded walk.

In earning the win, Daniel (2015, Lafayette, KY) threw six innings allowing only four hits and walking two while striking out five in his one-run effort. The 6'0" right-hander demonstrated a strong mound presence, working fast and getting ahead of hitters with a running low 80's heater that topped out at 85 mph. He also mixed in a curve, slider and change to complete his standard four repertoire.

William Guay (2015, Palm Beach Gardens, FL) was strong in defeat for PBC, throwing a complete game and allowing two runs on four hits. His fastball reached 87 mph on the gun.

Game On Bulls come back to beat Jackets 5-2

6/14/2014

It took a four run sixth inning for Game On Bulls to overcome Georgia Jackets 17U by a score of 5-2. The Jackets held a slim 2-1 lead as the bottom of the order came up, then five straight batters reached, culminating in four runs crossing the plate.

Bradley Hough (2015, Crisp County HS, GA) was 2-3 with a run scored and a pair of singles. Ryan Mayfield (2016, Veterans HS, GA) had an identical line, and Cole Gaylord (2015, Tattnall Square Academy, GA) knocked a double and a single. Tyler Hickox (2015, Dublin HS, GA) picked up one of two RBI's for the Bulls while Cory Bartholomew (2016, Tattnall Square Academy, GA) had the other.

The Bulls sent Dalton Rentz (2015, Cook County HS, GA) to the mound for the start, and he struck out seven through five frames. Two runs scored, one earned, on three hits and two walks. He stuck mainly with his heater, and with good reason as it hit 87 mph on the gun and sat 80-86 mph with life. The 5'11 175 pound righty had good command of the pitch, keeping it low in the zone. He also showed a good 69-76 mph straight change, a 71-72 mph hook and 72 mph slider from an overtop arm angle. His arm works well with quick, solid action to it and he pitches downhill with good extension out front and a good follow through. Rentz's delivery is sound and deceptive with good hip rotation, good use of his lower half and he stays online. Smith Reeves (2015, Bulloch Academy Inc, GA) followed with two perfect innings, throwing his fastball 78-81 mph with a 67-70 mph curve mixed in.

Brantley Flanagan (2014, Sequoyah HS, GA) threw four scoreless innings, surrendering four hits and three walks with three punch outs. Catchmark leads Bluerocks to 6-2 win

6/14/2014

He can do it with the bat and he can do it with his arm. John Catchmark (2015, Governor Mifflin HS, PA) had as many base hits at the plate (2) as he gave up on the mound through seven frames. With a bat in his hands, Grand Slam Bluerocks Carolina's Catchmark singled twice with a run scored and two RBI. On the bump, he deftly maneuvered through the New York Grays 17U line up, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks. The 5'11 right hander struck out five and ran his fastball up to 85 mph, sitting 80-84 mph. He's got a good fastball that he's aggressive with and can elevate. Catchmark also worked a 67-70 mph curve in with a 71-73 slider and 65-67 mph change up. The slide piece flashes potential, coming from an overtop angle with a short arm circle in the back. He stays tall on his backside with a balanced delivery with good hip rotation and good use of his lower half in the delivery. He's got effortless, loose arm action and he throws easy.

Bryant Schwoyer (2015, Daniel Boone Area HS, PA) picked up a pair of base knocks, drove in one and worked a walk as well. TJ Romoho (2015, Hamburg Area HS, PA) and Matt Kerber (2015, Tulpehockin HS, PA) were the only other two to get a hit in the game, and Kerber also kicked in a run scored and RBI to the cause.

Only two members of the New York Grays 17U had base hits in the game, as they could not muster much against Catchmark. Ian Miller (2014, Berkely Carroll HS, NY), a Harvard commit, was 1-2 with a walk and a run scored, and Zach De Thomasis (2014, Christian Brothers Academy, NY) had the other single, also stealing a base. Andy Camilo (2015, Salesian HS, NY) walked all three times up but didn't score.

Zachary Kotin (2015, Dalton HS, NY) was pretty dominant in relief, striking out four of the five batters he faced while walking the only other one as nobody put the ball in play against him. The 5'11 righty sat 82-84 mph with the heater, peaking at 84 mph with a 67-69 mph hook and a 76 mph change up. Starting pitcher Alex Cuas (2014, Grand Street Campus HS, NY) brought it up to 87 mph with his fastball that featured good life on it, sitting in the 78-85 mph range.

The slider and curve are both average and the fastball can feature both armside run and he can sink it. DeSantis uses his lower half well with a sound, online delivery with a bit of deception. He changes speeds well, works fast and competes on the mound.
