Pitching dominated the entire contest between Kentucky Baseball Club - Blythe 1 and Georgia Canes, as there were only five hits all game combined with Kentucky coming out on top 2-0.
Charles Braxton Cottongame (2018, Hazard, KY) got the start for Kentucky, throwing his fastball up to 77 mph with a 72 mph change up tossed in. The 6'1 145 pound southpaw's heater has a natural cut to it and sat 73-76 mph from a 3/4 arm angle. Drew Kindy (2018, Lexington, KY) walked away with the win, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings while dancing around a hit and four walks, striking out one with a wild pitch. The slight 5'5 righty wasn't overpowering, throwing his fastball 63-65 mph with a 57-58 mph curve thrown in.
At the plate, Benton McGill (2018, Bloomfield, KY), Austin Blake (2019, Lexington, KY), and Cottongame were the only ones to get a hit, all three singling with McGill and Blake coming around to score the game's only two runs. Blake also stole a base and Alex Atkins (2019, Prospect, KY) was credited with the only RBI with a sac fly in the second inning.
For the Georgia Canes, David Kramer (2019, Milton, GA) and Lance Mitchell (2019, Johns Creek, GA) picked up their two hits, both singles as well. Kramer also walked twice in the game, reaching base in all three plate appearances.
Mason Kearny (2019, Marietta, GA) struck out three in three innings, allowing one hit and one unearned run. The 5'7 righty peaked at 78 mph with his fastball, sitting 72-76 mph from a 3/4 arm angle and projectable stuff. He stays tall on his backside in his delivery, using his lower half well with good hip rotation. His arm works well, has good command, and is a bulldog on the mound with presence and a competitive streak.
