A three-run fifth inning from the bats of the Excel Blue Wave 15u nailed down a 5-2 victory over the 16U East Cobb Rockies.
It was a team effort from the Blue Wave but the offense was led by Justin Focue (2017, Virgil Grissom HS, AL) who reached base every time up, going 2-2 with a walk, two singles, a stolen base, and run scored. Easton Kirk (2017, Piedmont HS, AL) was 1-3 with a two-run double and a run scored, with a top notch baseball name to boot. Jacob Sears (2017, Oxford HS, AL) stole three bases, Jacob Rich (2017, Spain Park HS, AL) stole two bags, and Brooks Brophy (2017, Pelham HS, AL) had an RBI triple.
Austin Smith (2017, Lineville HS, AL) picked up the win throwing 2.2 innings with two strike outs, and one run allowed on on two hits and two walks. His fastball peaked at 78 mph with a 65-68 mph curve ball mixed in. Nathan Lloyd (2017, Oxford HS, AL) handled the other 4.1 innings of work, allowing a run on two hits and five walks with no strike outs. He sat 74-78 with his fastball, maxing out at 79 mph, and he also threw a 66-69 mph curve. Lloyd uses a balanced delivery and high 3/4 arm angle to attack hitters. He throws easy with good arm action and a good follow through.
Dion Simpson (2015, Roswell HS, GA) threw a complete game in a losing effort for the Rockies, allowing five run (three earned) on six hits and five walks with four strike outs. He threw 113 pitches in the game, with 82 of them a 75-80 mph fastball that touched 82 mph. Simpson also worked in a 67-70 mph curve and 71-73 mph change up. He's got an athletic frame with a 3/4 arm angle.
Jack Burrows (2016, Pope HS, GA) picked up East Cobb's only extra base hit with an RBI double. Rey Ramirez (2016, Harrison HS, GA) worked three walks and even had an RBI, and Cody Boring (2016, Etowah HS, GA) reached base twice on a single and a walk.
