What a year for the ’23 class, as we have seen these young prospects grow right in front of our eyes. Many have added positive notes to their respective resumes, with some even making huge jumps in the rankings. Now, let’s dive into and highlight some of the most impressive performances of the year as we nominate those who have stood out from a statistical standpoint.

Of the 62 names mentioned, they have accumulated just shy of 400 All-Tournament Team awards. Some were in the double digits with Tate McKee, Cristopher Morales, Luke Dotson, Chris Billingsley, Logan Bryson, Jacob Haley, Frankie Kern, and Grayson Baldovin all reaching that mark. Haley and Kern both led the pack with 13 All-Tournament Team accolades this year. If you peek down at some stats, the numbers are outrageous. Not a single hitter on either the first or second team dipped below an average of .325. The arms were also on full display this year as we saw some guys make big velocity jumps and really start to impose their will on hitters.  Out of the 29 pitchers mentioned, they combined for 1,789 punchouts.

The story of the year could be easily filled in by Kevin McGonigle. He had huge performances all summer and somehow ended up even having a stronger fall. McGonigle hit .479 on the year with an OPS of 1.442. This fall, he received MVP of WWBA Underclass World Championship and the very next week, he hit .429 in Jupiter and received All-Tournament honors again. He also shot up in the rankings and is shaping up to be a high-level draft prospect come next season.

Pitcher of the Year was none other than Chance Mako of the South Charlotte Panthers. The right-hander was electric this summer as he dominated some of the best bats in the country. The NC State commit wasn’t done, as his fall performance was one to remember. He made a start in the playoffs at the WWBA Underclass World Championship and put on a show. In 6 innings pitched, he struck out 16 without walking a batter or giving up a hit. His performance ended up earning him the MV-Pitcher award and was the cherry on top to a phenomenal year.

Player of the Year: Kevin McGonigle

Pitcher of the Year: Chance Mako

With that being said, let’s take a deeper dive into some of the top performers of the year.

When the summer season arrives, every team is searching for momentum. For ZT National Prospects, that momentum has come from throughout the lineup. After clinching their spot in bracket play with back-to-back victories, including a 16-0 win over Team Elite Scout 14U Black and an 8-0 victory against Hawaii Elite 2G 14U Black, ZT National Prospects have continued to showcase why they entered the week as one of the premier teams in the tournament. The roster is loaded with talent, including six players ranked among the top 50 players nationally in the 2030 class, but the team’s success has come from much more than individual achievements. In the opening bracket game on Tuesday, nine different players drove in runs as ZT National rolled to a 16-run victory. The balanced offensive attack continued in the playoff game, with six different players recording RBIs in an 8-0 win that helped...

The spring has come to a close and with the summer in full swing, it’s time to crown a National Champion for the High School season. The Trinity Shamrocks out of Louisville, Kentucky had an incredible year and finished the season winning back-to-back state titles, more impressively finishing on a 24 game winning streak. The spring was filled with dominant performances from the Shamrocks, led by PG All-American Grayson Willoughby who turned in a dominant effort in the state title game, a game in which they won 12-0. They played a rigorous schedule that saw them go 2-2 at NHSI including a win over St. John Bosco (CA) as well as a win over Tampa Jesuit (FL), both of which would go on to win state titles in powerhouse baseball states. The accolades don’t stop there as they posted six no-hitters across the spring as well as 21 shutout victories, making this one of the more...

However, on Tuesday he had the two-way ability on full display in a dominant four inning start for the East Coast Sox 2027 Franchise. The 5-foot-10, 225-pound two-way player ran the fastball up to 95 mph and it comes out of the hand easy. He pairs that with a nasty curveball at 80-81 (2800+ RPM) and mixes in a firm changeup to left-handed hitters....

Anthony Quigley, SS/3B, Northwest Florida State R-R, 6-5/215, Coral Springs, FL Previously Drafted: Never Drafted Anthony Quigley possesses a strong, physical frame with athleticism that plays in the box. There is bat speed through the zone with a feel to launch. The power stands out to the pullside. Quigley shows the athleticism on the defensive side, but is still likely best suited for third base at the next level.  301. Garrett Lambert, RHP, Mercer R-R, 6-2/200, Lilburn, GA Previously Drafted: Never Drafted Garrett Lambert features a strong, athletic frame with a quality three-pitch mix. The fastball works in the low-90’s with carry and cut. It is paired with a sharp slider that has sweep and diving changeup. Following a riveting weekend of baseball with over 40 teams represented in the 16u field of the Southeast Select Championship, two nationally ranked squads met in the championship as ATL Lightning 16u Gold put on a dominating performance to take home their first trophy of the summer and complete the tournament undefeated, overcoming eXposure 16u National 11-5. “Lot of compete,” ATL Lightning coach Jamie Palmer said on the successful weekend. “We got some guys that work really hard, get tired. I mean, these tournaments are so short, eight games in four days, they're tired, but they just kept competing and finding a way to get runs across and make plays when they needed to. In the first inning, Cannon Mayes got the starting nod for eXposure and held ATL Lightning to a scoreless frame with a tailor-made 6-4-3 double play ball to send it to the home half of the opening...

Finishing with a .571 BA including five doubles, a HR, and 14 RBI, the 6-foot-1, 210 pound prospect simply refused to get out, and was a major reason why his Philly Bandits squad walked away champs Monday afternoon. The stance for Bicht is relaxed and balanced with loose hands and plenty of bat speed to be found. VSA, Swamp Crowned Co-Champs After Nine-Inning Battle After three and a half hours under the hot Florida sun, VSA Sluggers 18 and Swamp Baseball’s City of Palms Championship battle ended in fitting fashion, with both teams sharing the title. The two teams remained tied 9-9 through nine innings before lightning in the area brought the championship matchup to a halt Monday afternoon. The two local programs have built a competitive rivalry, with several close matchups stemming from their proximity and familiarity with each other. Their history was evident throughout Monday’s matchup as emotions ran high, resulting in several heated exchanges and the eventual ejection of Swamp head coach Brian Porvaznik. Just three weeks earlier, the two teams met in the championship game of the BCS Qualifier, where VSA earned a 6-4 victory. Swamp entered Monday’s matchup looking to flip...
