Iowa Spring League Notebook: Week 5

Perfect Game Staff
Dawson Weller (2027, Ottumwa, IA) showcased his two-way potential with a strong performance this weekend. On the mound, worked two clean innings while striking out 3 consistently living in the zone and getting ahead with first-pitch strikes. Showed the ability to control tempo and attack hitters throughout the outing. At the plate made a big impact in the same game, collecting two doubles and a home run. Displays quick hands through the zone with the ability to connect on an uphill path and generate carry off the barrel. A well-rounded showing that highlighted impact on both sides of the ball.

Will Frederiksen (2026, Bettendorf, IA) had a loud weekend at the plate, launching 2 home runs and showing real impact with the bat. Generates plenty of juice in the swing with a simple, controlled load that allows him to stay on time. The swing works clean through the zone and produces strong contact and lift when squared. Continues to flash power potential with a repeatable and effective offensive approach when in the box. Augustana commit.



Brady Rissman (2028, Peosta, IA) with another productive weekend at the plate, totaling 6 hits and consistently finding ways to impact the baseball. Shows a strong, physical frame with good present strength that translates well in the box. Handles the barrel with feel, staying on time and consistently getting the bat to the baseball. Produces solid contact with the ability to drive it when squared, showing strength working through the zone. The right-handed swing plays with intent and uses his strength well in game action. 

Evan Barr (2026, Bettendorf, IA) put together a strong weekend at the plate, collecting 4 hits including a home run while adding RBI production. Showed a mature approach throughout, staying disciplined and taking quality at-bats. Generates noticeable power from the lower half at the turn allowing him to impact the ball. The swing works with strength and intent, producing solid contact when on time. Demonstrates the ability to impact the ball to all parts of the field. Wisconsin-Platteville commit.

Ryley Lawler (2026, Dubuque, IA) had a productive weekend at the plate, totaling 3 extra-base hits including 2 doubles and a home run. Shows a quick left-handed swing with a direct path to the ball with the ability to consistently impact when squared. The swing is compact allowing him to stay on time and generate solid contact. Displays good barrel control with the ability to drive pitches gap-to-gap. Continues to show a repeatable stroke that translates well to game action. 

Maddox Sirowy (2028, Ely, IA) could not be kept off the bases. Collected 6 hits with 2 going for extra bases while also drawing 6 walks. Shows a polished approach with strong discipline and an advanced feel for the zone. The swing is smooth and controlled allowing him to consistently stay on plane and square the ball up. Athleticism stands out in the frame adding to his overall offensive upside. A complete offensive showing built on approach, feel, and consistency. 

Caleb Paulson (2026, Asbury, IA) threw a complete game 2-hit shutout while striking out 9. Worked with confidence, attacked the zone and limited opportunities while consistently missing bats. At the plate tallied four hits on the weekend continuing to show a consistent offensive presence. Whips the hands through the zone and drives the ball well when on time. Gets into the back hip well before firing allowing him to generate controlled power through contact. Cornell commit.

Clayton Kroschel (2026, Beaver Dam, WI) handled the bat well from the right side and consistently found ways to impact the game. Features an athletic and strong frame with a simple stroke that plays well in game action. Starts with a wider base and a quick move through contact allowing him to stay on time and control the barrel. Shows good feel for shifting weight and generating a blend of bat speed and strength at impact. Finished the weekend with 4 hits continuing to produce steady offensive results. Madison College commit.

Elijah Scott (2027, Marion, IA) threw four scoreless innings while allowing just 1 hit and striking out 4. Worked with a fastball in the 79–81 mph range, topping 83, showing late life that allowed him to miss barrels. The pitch played up through the zone and helped him generate weak contact throughout the outing. Mixed in a 68–71 mph curveball with good feel using it early in counts to steal strikes and change eye levels. Showed the ability to land the breaking ball in the zone and keep hitters from getting comfortable. Maintained control of at-bats with a steady confident approach on the mound. 

Julius Edwards (2027, Fairfax, IA) delivered a dominant relief outing striking out 8 over 3.2 innings without allowing a hit. Used a fastball in the 80-83 mph range, bumping 85, showing arm side run and consistent life through the zone. The fastball played well at the top and helped generate swing-and-miss while staying aggressive in the zone. Shows a tougher arm action that adds deception to the delivery making the fastball harder to pick up out of the hand. Mixed in a low-70s slider with developing shape and solid depth. Showed the ability to sequence effectively and keep hitters uncomfortable across multiple looks.

Luke Baker (2026, Dubuque, IA) this weekend he went 4-6 with two home runs and a double. His big presence in the box paired with an athletic mover creates an uncomfortable situation for opposing pitchers. This right-handed hitter uses his hands very effectively with natural pop in the barrel. He also shows the ability to lift the ball to all fields, and do it effectively. Uses lower back half very well. 

Bennett Koch (2027, Fairfax, IA) crushed baseballs all weekend long going 6-8 including 3 doubles and a monster home run. Did this while bringing driving in 5 runs and picking up a stolen base. He uses a bigger toe tap trigger that shows great adjustability within the swing. That, plus his pure swing path, gives him an advantage to do damages on pitches within the zone. Real athletic swing that coils in the back hip extremely well and explodes out of it. He does a lot of damage to all fields as well as being able to only swing at pitches within the zone. 

Matthew Blomme (2027, Batavia, IA) one of the most impressive fastballs all weekend long. He was able to stay within the zone with all of his pitches, and do this consistently. Threw his fastball in the 85-87 mph range, and topped 89, and the breaker was in the mid-70s. His breaker shows a lot of solid depth and direction to keep hitters out of a rhythm. A top athletic mover when he is working down the zone. He was able to strike out 4 in his 2 innings of work. He also did a great job on getting ahead in counts with multiple pitches but relied on his fastball to consistently finish the job. 

Maddux Mueller (2026, Amana, IA) as well as being a good hitter he also threw very well this weekend. He threw 4.2 innings while striking out 7. Fastball touched 84 while consistently throwing in the low-80s. His curveball paired very well sitting low 70s, and using it early and often in any count. Longer arm path that effectively climbs the ladder as he is working down the mound. Uses his lower half well gliding down the mound as an efficient mover. Has the ability to be a high level two way as he progresses throughout the summer. Heartland CC commit.

Jacob Pierro (2028, Dubuque, IA) one of if not the most electric guys we have seen all spring. Absolute cannon for a right arm coming from this RHP/MIF. This weekend he sat 88-90 mph, topping 92 a couple times. That power paired with a low-to-mid- 80s breaker that can be placed wherever he chooses it to be. He moves with controlled aggression down hill towards the batter. He also uses his breaking ball early in counts, and was able to get ahead in many different situations. He punched out 8 over 4 innings of work in dominant fashion. His whippy arm action makes it hard for hitters to pick up on what he is throwing till it is too late. 

Isaiah Scott (2026, Marion, IA) was catching barrels all weekend long going 3-5 with all 3 of those hits being extra-base hits; two being doubles and one triple. Some of the quickest turns we saw in a swing this weekend. His hands whipped the barrel through very well with a great feel to elevate the baseball. This was one of the most advanced approaches I saw all day. Low chase rate, but anything in the zone was crushed deep into the outfield. His hover-like step into his swing helps him keep his weight back before firing through the zone. This hover step gives him time to adjust to all pitches. DMACC commit.

Jayden Stumpff (2028, Cedar Rapids, IA) not only is a great third baseman he also gets it done on the mound this weekend. He pitched for 4 innings and struck out 5 during his time and allowed 0 earned runs. He seems like a dude that can just get on the field and fill in any void you have as a coach, even when it is on the bump. Super athletic mover that dominated the zone for 4 innings. Two pitch mix, fastball, 78-82 mph, topping 84 mph, and slider 67-71 mph. Both pitches showed that he can be thrown comfortably and effectively. One of the best athletes at the complex week in and week out.

Tait Tierney (2026, Fairfax, IA) worked 4 scoreless innings while striking out 9, consistently filling up the strike zone and keeping hitters off balance from start to finish. Showed full command of the outing while maintaining pressure on every at-bat. Worked his fastball up to 80 mph, sitting in the upper 70s with arm-side life. Mixed in a mid-70s changeup with strong fading action that played well off the fastball, along with an upper-60s curveball as a secondary put-away option. Both off-speed pitches were used effectively to generate swing-and-miss and disrupt timing.The combination of strike-throwing ability, pitch mix, and feel for sequencing led to a highly efficient and dominant performance. 2027 Top 100 Draft Board  Current Favorite: SS Dylan Seward, Norco HS (Calif.) In our first iteration of the 2027 Draft Board, Norco shortstop Dylan Seward ranks No. 1 overall. The switch-hitter is an ultra-twitchy player with a lot to like on both sides of the ball. He is a supreme athlete that should stick up the middle. Explosiveness is shown in all aspects of his game and gives the profiles big time upside.  In the event that Seward does not go 1:1, each member of our draft team selected a player that they think could wind up in that spot. Fifty-Four teams, competing across three divisions in the 14u - 18u age classifications opened up our Fall schedule playing in a five game showcase style format.
