Team GA National pitches a shutout to earn Jupiter berth

EMERSON, Ga. – Team GA National topped Bullpen Redstitch 108 17u by a score of 3-0 to win the championship of the WWBA Southeast Qualifier #2 qualifying for an automatic berth to Jupiter and the 2018 WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla.

A three-run third inning would be all Team Georgia would need to win the game as starting pitcher Logan Tanner and reliever Jack Whitlock combined for a complete game one-hit shutout. Tanner also delivered the big blow on offense with a two-run single to left field that put his team out in front. There was not a whole lot of offense in the game for either side but the leading hitters were Reagan BurfordHunter FrenchDalton Stephens and Tanner, who all collected single base hits in the contest.

The MVP of the tournament was Travis Odom of Team GA National. Odom, an Auburn commit and PG National participant, batted .333 on the weekend, including three doubles and four RBI, while also tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings for his club in the semifinals.

The MV-Pitcher of the WWBA Southeast Qualifier #2 was Evan Boyle of Bullpen Redstitch 108 17u. Boyle pitched a gem in pool play going 6 2/3 innings of three-hit baseball with 12 strikeouts.

Team Elite 16u Black claims Underclass berth

EMERSON, Ga. – Team Elite 16u Black earned an automatic berth to the WWBA Underclass World Championships in Fort Myers, Florida by defeating eXposure Underclass Black by a score of 9-0 during the inaugural WWBA Southeast Underclass Qualifier. Team Elite looked like the team to beat throughout the weekend and it proved to be true as they won the championship game in a rout. 

Team Elite put up a crooked number in the top half of the first inning and did not look back from there. They would not allow a run in the contest thanks to the outstanding complete game effort by Wes Simpson. The righthander would pitch the entirety of the contest giving up just four hits with seven strikeouts.

The offense came early and often for Team Elite as they would collect multiple hits from Christopher KatzPreston SteeleDylan Hatfield, Darryl Buggs and Nevin Norville, who also collected a team-high three RBI. Norville ended up being the MVP of the WWBA Southeast Underclass Qualifier, going 5-for-8 in the tournament (.625) which included a double and a home run.

The MV-Pitcher of the event, Michael Stoltzfus of eXposure Underclass Black, pitched in a pair of games earning the win in each during the weekend. Stoltzfus threw nine innings with six strikeouts including a complete game shutout in the quarterfinals.
