2021 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase
Joseph "JD" Rodriguez is a 2022 RHP/ with a 6-4 215 lb. frame from Corona, CA who attends Orange Lutheran. Extra-large frame with some thickness to the build, body projects well with added strength. Primary right-handed pitcher with a smooth and fluid operation and a clean arm action that gets a bit long and off line in the back. Uses the lower half well to drive down the mound, tends to throw around his body rather than staying directional. Comes from a three-quarters slot, struggled to find the zone early on. Got much better as he settled in, looked good from the stretch. Shows good feel for a 12/6 curveball with tilt, tunnels it very well and it projects for added bite as he throws it harder. Fastball really takes off to the arm side with late life at times. Showed a splitter with some floating action as well to complete the three-pitch mix. Great student. Named to the 2021 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase Top Prospect List.
