2020 California Workout Camp (Saturday)
Lorenzo Gomez is a 2022 LHP/OF with a 6-0 152 lb. frame from La Habra, CA who attends Bishop Amat HS. Lorenzo is a mature and athletic player who shows poise and purpose on the field. In addition to his noteworthy ability on the diamond, Lorenzo is also a solid achiever in the classroom. He ran a 7.28 60 yard dash. A primary LHP, Lorenzo utilizes a very smooth and easy delivery. He doesn't appeared a bit phased by being on center stage. His pace and rhythm are outstanding and he repeats his operation well. He shows a longer arm stroke and an extended finish and he works down the slope well. He pitches off his very well commanded 70-74 mph fastball that he likes to work to the arm side edge. His heater shows both arm side run and sink at the plate. His 65 mph curveball has classic shape that is more 1/7 looking. It does, on occasion take on slider characteristics and the break becomes later, sharper, and shorter. He does call every secondary pitch that has spin a curveball. His 66 mph change up is a solid pitch that should continue to improve. He appears to throw it with great confidence. He shows fastball arm action with the CH and it tumbles late at the dish. Plus out pitch to RHH. Lorenzo also took a turn in the outfield. He showed his very smooth and mature approach to his defensive game. He is easy to position and plays through the fielding action with gathering momentum. His glove plays well and he transitions easily. His 73 mph throws show carry and are highly and consistently accurate. Lorenzo absolutely has the ability to play the OF at the next level. At the plate, Lorenzo uses a short, direct and compact swing operation. There is no unnecessary wasted motion in/with his swing. He is more pull side oriented and his trigger gets his bat on plane and to and through contact easily. He shows loud and solid gap pop and his emerging power is evident. Solid approach with the bat. Lorenzo is a sound and talented player. He certainly has the necessary tools to not only impact his HS program as a two-way player, but to move on to the small college scene and stand out.
