Matthew Espinoza is a 2019 OF/LHP with a 5-8 135 lb. frame from West Covina, CA who attends South Hills. Compact frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary outfielder with deliberate footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Developing glove actions while funneling out front and worked through exchange. Flashed some carry to the bag while releasing from a three-quarters slot, topped at 81 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and balanced leg lift trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Compact, direct hand path with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Stays balanced throughout and looked to work the baseball to the middle of the field. Flashed the hand speed to turn the barrel and work to pull side as well. Also pitched utilizing a smooth paced side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall and balance don back side at gather. Works to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Shorter arm circle at take back and released from and extended three-quarters slot. Fastball created some downward plane through the zone in the mid 70's, topped at 77 miles per hour. Curveball had 1/7 shape with looser spin and some depth to the bottom of the zone. Also flashed a changeup offering that featured late sink in the low 70's. Good student.
