Cory Ellis is a 2007 3B/P/1B from Vestavia Hills HS in Vestavia Hills, AL, with a 6'0'', 191 lb. frame. He has good solid strength and a mature build. Ellis ran 7.74 in the 60 and threw 74 mph during infield drills. He has active feet in the field and an accurate throwing arm. He'll likely have to work on his quickness to remain at third base as the game speeds up. Ellis hits from a no stride approach at the plate with a line drive swing plane. He has good hand strength and the ball comes off his bat well. Ellis has some bat speed and his slashing swing shows gap to gap power potential. He can pull his hands in to get to the inside pitches and pull them. He has the tools to hit at the next level. Ellis also pitched. His fastball was 78 mph and he threw a 62 mph curveball and 65 mph change up. Ellis mixed his pitches up well and did a good job pitching ahead in the count. He has some pitchability and in mid-season form is likely a good secondary pitcher at the high school level. Ellis is also a strong student.
