Blayze Berry is a 2020 SS/2B with a 5-10 180 lb. frame from Columbus, MS who attends Heritage Academy High School. Medium, athletic frame with present strength proportioned well throughout frame, additional room to fill out moving forward. Ran a 7.54 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, shows nice range and moves well on feet to work behind ball, quickness to hands and on the exchange, fields out front, controls body well, accurate throws across the diamond with present strength and carry to first base. Also pitched, simple side step into delivery with a leg lift to belt, repeatable mechanics with a full arm action through the back. Fastball topped out at 83 mph and shows nice running life in on the hand's of hitters, short and on line stride down the mound. Confidence in secondary pitches, similar release on both, flashes cut action on changeup at 74 mph and flashed curveball at 72 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Upper body dominant swing, utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Linear swing path through the zone and stays direct with hands to the ball, contact approach and gets extended out front at point of contact. Able to work all fields with contact and showed best carry to the opposite field. Very good student.
