James (JD) Smith is a 2022 SS/RHP with a 5-9 135 lb. frame from Valdosta, GA who attends Valdosta. Medium and lanky frame. Ran a 7.10 second 60 yard dash. Primary shortstop, moves to the baseball with athletic movements, fields the ball in a low gathering positions with playable hands, footwork is still developing but flashes clean actions and projects well in the infield moving forward, flashed advanced arm strength topping out at 80 mph across the diamond. Secondary righthanded pitcher, starts windup from the first base side of the rubber, takes his arm back to a compact arm action up to a 3/4 arm slot, fastball topped out at 78-80 mph with armside run to it, slurve-type break to his curveball, late diving changeup was featured as well. Righthanded hitter, sets up at the plate with a slightly open stance, hands work up at load, takes a flat path to the baseball, will improve pop off of the barrel with additional lower half shifted into contact, middle of the field approach. Outstanding student.
