Santiago Garavito is a 2019 C with a 6-0 190 lb. frame from Plantation, FL who attends American Heritage High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and long limbs, present strength to frame with additional room to fill moving forward. Primary catcher, begins with a lower set behind the plate with flexibility, receives the ball out front and sticks pitches well, gets tall out of crouch and gains ground with lower half, repeats actions, can continue to refine overall footwork moving through release, accurate throws down to second base, 1.89 best pop time during drills. Righthanded hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and a wide base with a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Hands start away from body prior to load, does a nice job of staying short and direct to the ball. Utilizes a simple trigger and can incorporate additional lower half into shift; able to unlock strength and showed best contact when getting extended out front. Excellent student.
