Bret Smith is a 2015 LHP/1B with a 6-1 190 lb. frame from Nederland, TX who attends Nederland HS. Strong well proportioned athletic build. Compact arm action, tight 3/4's release slot, hides the ball well, some effort on release. Fastball topped out at 82 mph, will add and subtract to fastball velocity, mostly straight with occasional running action. Curveball shows tight spin and sharp two-plane shape at times. Throws strikes with both pitches and was effective. Left handed hitter, narrow stance with a big stride into contact creating length and occasional timing issues, has strength in his swing and some bat speed, looking to pull and lift the ball. Good student.
