Anthony Montoya is a 2029 C/RHP/3B with a 5-7 118 lb. frame from Santa Fe, NM who attends Capital. Slender young build with lots of time and room to fill in and get stronger. Right handed hitter, hits from a narrow upright stance with a short stride into contact, low hand load, tends to get stuck over his back side, still developing the strength to control the barrel. 7.99 runner in the sixty. Primary catcher on defense, has good athleticism coming out of his crouch and gains ground into his throws, makes accurate throws from a compact arm action, more arm strength to come. Also worked out in the infield and showed nice actions and athleticism, good footwork and glove position, can see him playing there as he gets more mature physically. Took a turn on the mound, works from a full wind up, opens his front side early and throws from a low 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped out at 71 mph with nice running action, fastball plays up with some deception. Flashed a big sweeping curveball but wasn't consistent in the release. Good student.
