LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2004 World Showcase
Philpot is a very athletic 6-4 right hander with long levers and good overall strength. He took a good round of batting practice and looked like an above average fielder on the mound. Philpot threw 86-89 mph for us, turning over what looked like a 2-seamer at the lower speeds and throwing a straight 4-seamer at 88-89 mph. We think there’s plenty more in Philpot’s arm, too. He gets very little use of his lower half in his delivery and as a result cuts himself off out front. Philpot also threw a 75-77 mph slurve that had nice break and bite to it at times. He’s a very good student as well. We have always liked Philpot and we think his best years are still ahead of him. He has the size and arm strength to develop into a MLB pitcher at some point.
