2025 PG Puerto Rico National Showcase Qualifier
Orlando Vargas is a 2027 SS/RHP/OF with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Caguas, PR who attends International Baseball Academy. Outstanding young athletic build, really projects well physically. Switch-hitter at the plate, has bat speed and talent from both sides, simple low effort swing from the left side with some lift to the pull side, really showed his left handed power well in the games. Has a fuller swing path from the right side, still low effort bat speed with hard jump off the barrel. True switch-hitter with big projection. 7.08 runner in the sixty. Primary shortstop on defense, has controlled and smooth athletic actions with good footwork, very sound fundamentally, works behind the ball well, changes arm slots effectively. Also worked out in the outfield, lengthened his arm stroke and showed big carry. Took a turn on the mound, works from the stretch with a 3/4's arm slot. Fastball was in the low 80's and straight and thrown to spots. Also threw a change up with some split like sink. Good student. Named to the PG Puerto Rice National Qualifier Showcase Top Prospect List.
