Maple Moody is a 2021 1B/RHP, SS with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Seattle, WA who attends Lakeside. Large athletic frame with present strength. Primary first baseman, glove works well out in front, stays in front of the baseball well and uses an over the top slot to throw to all bags. On the mound, has a short arm action from a three-quarters to high three-quarters arm slot. Side step rock in his windup with an out wide mid-leg lift before shoving down the hill. Pitches with great tempo, 79-81 mph fastball lives around the zone. Mixes in a low 11-to-5 shaped curveball with great projection. Good depth and bite, possibility of developing into a true slider as his arm strengthens. In the infield, shows good softness to his glove and makes solid first step reads off the bat. Is meticulous when working on the run. At the plate, uses an upright and balanced stance with a mid leg kick trigger. Creates a slight hand coil into his load and has plenty of power left to be unlocked in his lower half. Slightly elevated barrel plane generates consistent high launch angle. Excellent student in the classroom as well.
