Jake Rivers is a 2020 SS/RHP with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Birmingham, AL who attends Oak Mountain. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 6.76 sixty-yard dash. Primary shortstop with fluid, athletic footwork while ranging for and surrounding the baseball. Reads hops well and displayed sound glove actions while funneling. Worked through exchange quickly and generated stiff, accurate carry to the bag at 86 mph. Left handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple front side trigger. Created some shift into contact with lower half. Displayed quick hands through the zone with compact path to contact. Barrel came through the zone on a naturally leveraged plane. Consistently created hard, sharp contact off the barrel to the middle of the field but showed the bat head control to work to all fields as well. Also pitched working exclusively from the stretch. High lg lifted and stayed flexed on back side at gather. Worked to the plate with drop and drive actions. Lands at a slightly closed position on front side. Released from a three-quarters slot generating heavy run through the zone in the lo w80's, topped at 83 mph. Curveball had 9/5 shape with tight spin and late depth in the low 70's. Consistently attacked the zone and induced weak contact. Excellent student. Named to the 2019 National Academic Showcase, Top Prospect List.
