Tyler Howlett is a 2023 C/OF with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Chesapeake, VA who attends Nansemond-Suffolk Academy. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.45 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, begins with a lower set behind the plate, receives the ball out front, quick transfer out of glove, gets taller out of crouch, tight release with longer arm stroke on throws, shows nice accuracy down to second base, 2.15 best pop time. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; balanced stroke and does a nice job of getting lower half incorporated. Smooth barrel path through the zone and looks to lift at the point of contact, repeats mechanics and shows carry. Best contact to pull side, has a handle for the barrel and projects for power with additional strength. Very good student.
