Jose Javier Mercado Acosta is a 2018 SS/2B with a 6-0 153 lb. frame from Arecibo, PR who attends Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy. Tall and slender athletic build. 6.76 runner, has very clean and easy actions at shortstop defensively, light on his feet with good balance and footwork thru the ball, soft hands, has present arm strength with a projectable arm action. Right handed hitter, hits from a tall stance with a limited shift to contact, open front side and is looking to pull the ball, somewhat of an upper cut swing plane and puts the ball in the air, turned on one pitch in the game and short hopped the left field fence. Very projectable young player who will keep getting better as he gets stronger.
