Mauro Baustamante is a 2019 UT/RHP with a 5-9 180 lb. frame from Helotes, TX who attends Sandra Day O'Connor HS. Medium frame with athletic, solidly-built frame. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.34 seconds. Sets up to hit from open stance, loads well on time, shows good bat speed, shifts into swing well, consistently firm contact off the barrel with jump into the gaps, consistently made contact in games as well with power. Moves well in the infield and can make the fundamental play, hands work, throws across clocked up to 82 mph. Also pitched, simplistic delivery, short rocker step with some hesitation to tempo, long arm stroke with wrap through the back, easy delivery overall, fastball worked 82-84 mph and can be overpowering within the zone. Showed softer curveball with good shape, lands it for strikes consistently. Showed good ability to command the ball to both sides of the plate. Named to 2017 National Underclass South Showcase, very good student.
