Daniel Velazquez is a 2017 1B/LHP with a 5-10 235 lb. frame from Murrieta, CA who attends Vista Murrieta HS. Velazquez has a medium sized frame with a thicker build with strength. Defensively he showed solid glove skills at 1B with the ability to make the picks in the dirt. Velazquez throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with some arm strength up to 81 MPH. At the plate he starts with an open stance with a narrow base. He starts with a high back elbow and uses a leg lift trigger to start his swing. Velazquez stays short to the baseball and has good bat speed. He has an aggressive approach and made lots of hard contact all weekend. He showed good pop to the pull side gap and has strength in his swing. Velazquez has hitting tools to work with. He pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot and gets some late run on his fastball. He also throws a 12/6 curveball with some shape to it. Good student.
