Jamal Boykin is a 2018 SS/2B with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Covington, GA who attends Newton High School. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Solid runner, posted a 6.81 60-yard dash, aggressive on the bases and likes to use speed. Primary middle infielder, moves well to the ball on feet, works behind the ball and fields it out front with two hands, shows balance while charging in, gets on top of throws and shows accuracy across, can throw from multiple arm angles. Righthanded hitter, begins with a tall and closed stance and a high hand set in the box. Short glide step for timing moving into swing, shows quick hands coming through the zone with a linear swing plane. Creates torque with hips in swing, matches plane well and shows a nice angle at point of contact, looks to elevate the ball and can do so while working to all fields. Good student.
