Dean Colton is a 2019 C/RHP/1B with a 6-3 220 lb. frame from Brookhaven, GA who attends Marist HS. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and a mature build with present strength throughout frame. Primary catcher, begins with a lower set behind the plate and slight turn in drills, receives the ball out front, gets tall out of crouch with slight pause at top, short arm action with a tight release, on top of throws well and shows arm strength and carry down to second base with accuracy on throws. Also pitched, worked exclusively out of the stretch with a simple leg lift up to belt at start of delivery. Full arm action through the back working to a three-quarters release point, gets on top of fastball and topped out at 84 mph, mostly true in life. Generates plane on fastball and mixed a 12-6 shaped curveball with feel up to 66 mph. Short stride and lands slightly closed, will continue to develop consistent feel on off speed. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a low and tight hand set at start of swing. Incorporates physical strength well into swing and creates bat speed through the zone. Simple swing and overall mechanics, stays short to the ball with swing path and shows hard contact to pull side when squared up. Good student.
