Asa Runge is a 2021 LHP/1B/OF with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Chester, NH who attends Pinkerton Academy. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present physical strength proportioned well throughout frame. Ran a 7.66 60-yard dash. Primary lefthanded pitcher, simple side step moving into delivery, gets tall on back side, full hand path with higher leg lift up above belt and hip turn at top. Sound front side mechanics and stride on line towards the plate, shorter and quick arm action through the back working to a three-quarters release. Gets on top of fastball and worked within the zone, topped out at 79 mph. Confident on the mound, comfort in curveball with hard 1-7 shape, difficult pitch for lefthanded hitters to square up. Fields position well. Moves well to the ball and gets behind the ball, sound actions, similar short arm action and shows carry with accuracy to the intended base. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and does a nice job of getting closed prior to contact, starts with a high back elbow and lower hand set. Quick hands and stays short to the ball while hitting the ball out front. Will continue to unlock strength with additional extension to swing, ball comes off well when squared. Good student.
