2015 Atlantic Coast Underclass Showcase
Van Gupton is a 2018 OF/ with a 5-8 161 lb. frame from Raleigh, NC who attends Rolesville. Medium frame with slender, highly athletic present build and good remaining room to continue filling out. Ran very well, posting a 6.72 60 yard dash time. Hits with big, deep load in upper body, shifts weight well into contact from load, generates good bat speed with strength and intent in swing. Timing was off occasionally, raw hitting tools and overall bat projection are very good. Some lift in swing, mostly line drive plane, has the bat path and bat speed to project for significant power with additional strength gains and physical development. Worked out defensively in the OF, moves to ball well and shows quick twitch athleticism throughout actions, athleticism shown defensively is impressive. Made consistently accurate throws with OF velocity up to 71 MPH. Good student.
