2016 Pitcher Catcher Showcase
Ryan Schmitt is a 2016 RHP with a 5-10 190 lb. frame from Hartland, WI who attends Arrowhead HS. Thick strong build, fairly mature physically. Big back turn delivery, rotational mechanics, gets back on line well, has some deception for hitters, extended 3/4's arm slot, repeats his delivery well. Fastball topped out at 90 mph, gets very hard and consistent sink on the ball, ball gets on hitters quickly. High quality slider with hard bite and very good depth. Slows his body rotation a bit on his change up but shows feel for the pitch. Will work too quickly and get out of rhythm at times but otherwise threw mostly strikes with all three pitches and dominated. Good student, signed with Illinois.
