Richard Gilbert is a 2017 LHP/1B, OF with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from San Antonio, TX who attends Johnson. Large, athletic frame with a lean and projectable build. Ran a 7.40 60-yard dash. Primary left-handed pitcher, works from a three-quarter arm slot with a compact arm action in the back. Balanced delivery with nice uses of lower half and an online finish towards the plate. Ball comes out of hand easy and clean. Has an understanding of how to pitch, worked fastball knee high to both sides of the plate, topping at 84 mph with slight run to his arm side. His curveball shows tight spin with 1-7 shape. Slows arm action on changeup a bit but has nice fade to arm side at 72 mph. Mixed all three pitches well, inducing ground ball contact when put in play. Switch hitter, shows a short line drive swing from the right side with fluidity. Start with high hands from the left side, gets to front foot early, quick bat with middle of the field contact. Named to South Underclass Top Prospect List. Very good student.
