LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2004 World Showcase
A couple of months ago we wouldn’t have given Roman much of a chance to catch at the next level but it’s obvious that this young prospect has put in a lot of hard work on his catching skills and fundamentals. His footwork has improved significantly which puts his hands and arm in better position to work. Roman showed solid average big league arm strength in workouts and made 3 throws in the 1.78 to 1.84 range. Roman is such a powerful natural athlete that if he continues to improve his defensive fundamentals, he could end up being really good. If not, he’s already a well established outfielder. As long as you ignore batting practice (Roman is one of those hitters who just doesn’t get as good practice swings as game swings), Roman remains a top flight offensive player who can beat you with either his power or his speed and from both sides of the plate. His Indiana Yankees coach told us that Roman’s season stolen base totals in 2003 were 121 steals in 127 attempts over 94 games. We believe it because it seemed that about 30 of those were in WWBA events.
