Cameron Smith (’27, MD) is a touch look for any batter facing him with his physicality and low-3/4 arm angle. The ball gets out of his hand well and seems to jump on hitters. His fastball reached 86 mph several times and with its heavy boring action, he consistently ran hitters out of barrel. His slider and changeup still have a way to go to match the effectiveness of his heater but flashed both to let you know they’re available. He is a durable 6-1/195 and rolled through the opposition over his 3.0 IP, registering 7 of his 9 outs via the strikeout.

Brody Bunting (’27, VA) performed at a high level on both sides of the ball, showing the ability to impact the game in most every aspect. The 5-10/170 primary position RHP rolled through 3.0 IP as he punched out 5 batters. His low-80s heater held plain very well through the zone and used a high-spin slider to eliminate contact. He also showed the ability to handle the bat putting together a perfect 3 for 3 game as he worked the middle of the field.

Hunter Cason (’28, VA) can really cover ground and make a difference with the leather. The 6-0/155 athlete showed excellent lateral range and clean glove work, taking away several potential base hits in game action. Offensively he showed the ability to control the barrel as he worked the middle of the field and wreaked havoc on the bases taking every extra base that was available. This is an interesting middle infield profile to follow in the coming months.

Dylan Wagnon (’28, NC) was dominant in his 3.0 IP in game action where he didn’t allow a run and punched out 3-batters. A physical LHP at 6-2/190, he attacks hitters on the plate with a low-80s fastball that showed life to the arm side. However, his best offering on the day was his low-70s breaker that showed mostly vertical shape and continued to eat as it reached the zone. He also flashed a fading changeup that will serve him well down the line.

Anthoni Marling (’28, NC) is a slashing type of player with the ability to impact the game with the glove and the bat. A solid runner, he ranges well in the outfield and covered significant ground laterally on the clay. At 5-11/185 he displays dense strength that serves him well at the plate. He elevates the ball naturally and projects solid power long term as we saw when he short hopped the centerfield wall in game action for a standup double. Plenty of carrying tools to follow in the future.

Robert Mate (’28, VA) showed himself to be a gamer, especially with the stick, as he stacked together one competitive at-bat after another in game action. With his advanced approach, he literally sprayed balls line to line as he collected 5-hits over two games. He has the knack for getting to the good part of the barrel and seemed to identify spin very well too. The 6-0/165 primary position outfielder plays with a high motor and attacks the game in a way that is fun to watch.

Tristan Johnson (’29, VA) put together the loudest at-bats of the event in game play, where he showed loose hands and the ability to leverage the ball to all fields. The 5-11/185 lefty has a simple process to get to contact and the ball gets off his barrel in a rush. He launched a ball out on a line over the RCF wall and just missed leaving the yard to dead centerfield with the ball hitting three-quarters of the way up the 30-foot eye wall. He is listed as a primary position catcher and did a nice job behind the dish with the glove and possesses above average arm strength presently.

Coltin McKeel (’29, NC) showed well in all aspects of the game on the weekend as the 5-7/160 utility player moved around the field. While he is an average runner currently, his game speed stood out and he is more than capable of playing most any position on the field from a defensive standpoint. McKeel excelled at the plate, putting together competitive at-bats, batting .500 over two games including two doubles overall. It will be interesting to see where McKeel’s talent takes him long-term.

Joey Chwalik (’29, VA) blended his 3-pitch mix well and cruised through his 2.0 IP, registering 5 of his 6 outs via the strikeout. There is some deception to the 6-1/185 righties delivery and his ability to land his offerings for strikes kept hitters off time. He also showed plenty of skill around the field, handling the leather well enough to stick on the infield if need be and his simple approach at the plate should play well for him up the line.
