Conner Draper (2027 SS, Sylvania, OH) got the scoring started with a backside RBI double in the first inning. Draper, who would double again later in the day, also showed well defensively in the middle infield.
In nearly identical fashion, TJ Tibbetts (2025 SS, Lawrenceburg, IN) added two hits for the Black squad and also flashed the leather in the middle infield, continuing to showcase his smooth actions as a defender.
Red would answer with an RBI knock from Asher Simmons (2027 C, Monroe, MI), who swung the bat as well as anybody all weekend. Simmons later added a single and made hard contact on a line drive to centerfield in his last at-bat. Gabe Grimm (2027 OF, Ottawa Hills, OH) added an impressive pull-side double himself, showing off a quick, powerful bat and plus speed on the bases.
On the mound, Bryce Hogan (2026 OF, Cincinnati, OH) breezed through his two innings of work, allowing one hit and an unearned run on just 19 pitches. Hogan filled up the zone to the tune of a 63% strike rate.
Donavan Thompson (2025 OF, Erie, PA) was also impressive in his two innings, pairing a good fastball that topped at 82 with a sharp breaking ball in the low-to-mid 70s.
The contest was also highlighted by several nice defensive plays. In addition to Draper, Tibbets and Grimm, nice plays- Angel Hillsman (2025 OF, Euclid, OH) made a great catch on a full sprint in the right field corner, displaying elite speed and fearlessness on defense.
