Batting Practice Highlights

10/13/2018

Matthew Barnhorst (2020 SS, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) is listed at 5-10/160 but appears to be both taller and stronger than that.  He has a very smooth right handed swing with bat speed and wore out the left centerfield gap during his impressive round.

Trey Burd (2021 SS, Jacksonville, FL) is another young and projectable shortstop with hitting ability to will continue to improve as he gets stronger and learns how to turn the barrel on certain pitches.  The right handed hitter's best contact was consistently to right centerfield.

Frank Elissalt (2020 3B, Miami, FL) is a switch-hitter who appeared to be much more comfortable with a faster and shorter swing from the right side of the plate.  At 6-1/190, he has plenty of present strength to drive the ball hard.

Daniel Elliott (2020 3B, Clarksville, MD) is another big and strong third baseman who appears to be much stronger and more accomplished from the right side than the left side.  His hands are very quick right handed and the ball comes off the barrel hard.

John Marant (2020 OF, Tyrone, GA) is an extra tall 6-5/195 athlete but has a loose swing with good bat speed and some barrel whip.  His very projectable power will grow quickly when he works out a late swing back leg collapse that slows his bat down.

Tyler Young (2020 SS, New Hope, PA) has a very mature swing approach and squared the ball up almost every pitch, mostly to mid field and the pull side.  He'll keep improving as he gets stronger.

Holden Wilder (2020 RHP, Suwanee, GA) is a great example of why some primary pitchers are surprisingly good hitters.  He has an exceptionally simple right handed swing approach with no variables and the strength at 6-2/200 to create some bat speed and impact the baseball.

Adam Ebling (2021 SS, St. Louis, MO) has a short and simple right handed swing as well and at 5-11/170 with a young look to him has plenty of time and room to get stronger.  He went gap to gap with good hand quickness and barrel control.

Benjamin Waybright (2020 C, Knoxville, TN) is a left handed hitting catcher with strong and quick hips he uses very well to help create bat speed.  At 6-0/195 he has present strength and the ball jumps off the barrel hard.

Jackson Ferrigno (2021 SS, Farmington, CT) has very nice flow and timing into contact and a loose swing that enabled him to square the ball up consistently.  He'll keep improving as he fills out his slender and young 5-11/145 frame.

Ben Lepik (2019 C, Atlanta, GA) is a switch-hitting catcher with an athletic and projectable 6-3/170 build.  He showed a smoother swing with better bat speed from the left side of the plate with lots of extension through contact.

Jacob Stacey (2021 SS, Radnor, PA) has an athletic and live 5-8/155 middle infielder's build and has an aggressive right handed swing that drove the ball well with solid pull contact.

Chase Horst (2022 OF, Lititz, PA) has a very young looking 5-8/137 build but very nice hand quickness for his age and a loose and aggressive swing.  He's going to keep improving as he gains physical maturity.

Mark Branz (2019 SS, Millstadt, IL) hits from a spread stance with little or no lower half shift but has the strength at 6-1/180 to create bat speed.  He has lots of natural lift and uphill plane in his swing and plenty of power potential.

Reid Bowman (2021 SS, Little Rock, AR) has a young look and an equally young 5-10/150 build but has a very nice swing in all aspects that produced consistent gap to gap contact.  The real bat speed isn't quite there yet but will be when he gets stronger.

Matthew Strzelecki (2019 LHP, Cumming, GA) is another primary pitcher with good athleticism and a very simple left handed swing that just takes the barrel to the ball on time and maximizes square contact.

Ryan Peterson (2021 C, Virginia Beach, VA) is a left handed hitting catcher with a 6-0/180 build and good present strength for his age.  He has an aggressive swing approach from an open stance and pulls the ball hard  with good extension through contact.

Tai Lizdas (2020 RHP, Flowery Branch, GA) doesn't look like a hitter with a very slender 6-3/160 build but he created surprising bat speed and barrel whip and drove the ball hard.

Peyton Carr (2020 3B, Fort Myers, FL) looks the part with a strong 6-1/190 frame and has a nice flow into contact that helps maximize his bat speed.  He hit hard line drives to the middle of the field with good barrel whip through the zone.

Campbell Cleveland (2020 C, Auburn, AL) has a big and strong 6-2/190 build and has present bat speed even with limited lower half use in his swing.  Add that and he'll be driving the ball even harder to the middle of the field.

Dan Beistel (2019 C, Canfield, OH) is another big and strong right handed hitting catcher at 6-2/200.  He has a short swing for his size that maximizes square contact and has very repeatable mechanics and timing to add on top of that.

Gavin Roberts (2020 SS, Parker, CO) has lots of strength to add to his young athletic 6-1/160 frame and a good swing base to start from.  He already has some young bat speed with a consistent line drive approach and lots of hard pull contact.

John Combs II (2021 C, Spring City, TN) has a very simple and repeatable right handed swing and excellent strength for a sophomore.  He has some untapped power to grow into as he learns his swing and what pitches he can lift.

Josh Gray (2019 OF, Jacksonville, FL) has one of the most athletic builds at the showcase at 6-3/190 and the left handed hitter has tools to go with it.  The left handed hitter has nice flow into contact and a loose and strong swing.  He is committed to Tallahassee CC.
