59-Columbia Blue V. 60-Gray Highlights

12/30/2023

Shawn Smith (2024 OF, Kodak, TN) was up to 81 mph on the hill with a good bit of run to his fastball. Mixed in some promising off-speed and forced soft contact with his slider garnering empty swings. Lots of ground balls and has feel to pitch. Slender build with more in store.

Jonathan Rodriguez (2024 SS, Newark, NJ) is a high energy player who performed well. Can handle the dirt up the middle and has a softer set of hands with clean transfers. Found a base knock in game action, showing a balanced swing with good extension out front.

Logan Sanchez (2024 C, Lake Mary, FL) really good defensive backstop all week long. Has been on the barrel consistently with good strength at the point of contact. Popped a 1.89 in drills and looked the part behind there.

Campbell Whitener (2024 3B, Moore, SC) good two-way potential on display today. Kept the hands in and drilled one to the pull side for an RBI single. Hopped on the bump and was lights out with a good three-pitch mix.

Nelson Zapata (2024 OF, Charlotte, NC) showed plenty of athleticism and good bursts of twitch. Legged out a double and followed with a stolen bag. Wiry athlete with long strides and good foot speed. Impact athlete and 6.6 runner. Ran it up to 87 mph on the hill too.

Justin Trotmer (2024, C, Estero, FL) added a double to his day on a well-placed fastball. Pieced one to the gap and recorded an XBH in the process.

59-Columbia Blue V. 61-Green Highlights

12/30/2023

Eddie Johnson (2024 RHP, Algonquin, IL) physical 6-foot-3 framed righty with a good mix. Ran it up to low-80s and held it. Mixed in a low-70s breaking ball with confidence. Flashed a few good changeups, as well. Moves well down slope for his size and filled the zone.

Miguel Gonzalez (2024 SS, Miami, FL) has a solid, short swing and is a versatile defender up the middle of the dirt. Good base hit and solid contact all day. He's an aggressive baserunner with good hands defensively, as well. Solid skillset.

Gavin Gross (2024 SS, Valparaiso, IN) has good two-way potential and was dominant on the hill. Forced soft contact. Got the fastball into low-80s with good 2-seam run on it. Mixed in a late tailing slider for whiffs. Potent mix and is a quality defender on the dirt too.

Travis Stroud II (2024 OF, Atlanta, GA) strong framed catcher and outfielder who pieced a ball for a base hit. Good barrel whip from the left side with some big time strength at contact. Lots to build upon as the frame continues to mature.

60-Gray V. 61-Green Highlights

12/30/2023

Matthew Wood (2024 LHP, Trumbull, CT) solid lefty who showed well in his outing. Ran it up to 86 mph with good arm-side run. Mixed in a low-70s curveball with shorter depth. Mixed in a short slider and good changeup too. Good feel and can pitch, was in the zone and missed bats. Big 6-foot-1 frame to boat.

Abraham Samuel Fortis Osorio (2024 SS, Conyers, GA) had a couple real good barrels in game action. Enticing athlete on the dirt or grass, good extension and gets the head out front with the stick. Can impact the game in multiple facets.

Wyatt Standifer (2024 OF, Springboro, OH) solid showing at the plate, two good his to the pull side and followed with a stolen base his second at-bat. Rangy outfielder with good handle for the bat. Moved well out there and was aggressive on the basepaths.

Campbell Whitener (2024 3B, Moore, SC) showed good range to his left, taking a way a potential base hit in the fifth for an impressive 4-3. Good footspeed and a crisp glove to make a difficult out from a tough angle.

61-Green vs. 59-Columbia Blue Highlights

12/29/2023

Ryan Labarca (2024 RHP, Miami, FL) showed up to Main Event with a fresh arm, picking up a new PR in fastball velocity at 91 mph. He overpowered hitters and picked up plenty of whiffs along the way. The arm speed stands way out and he's added good strength to his frame.

Joshua Guerrero (2024 C, Port St Lucie, FL) swung the bat well across multiple games today, picking up a loud barreled double in this one. He's got good strength to his frame and in his hands, with a direct barrel path and consistent results.

Logan Sanchez (2024 C, Lake Mary, FL) had a huge day across workouts and multiple games, showing off his advanced defensive skills behind the plate in addition to big righthanded bat speed and multiple extra base hits.

Shawn Smith (2024 OF, Kodak, TN) has a lanky frame with good projection remaining on it and shows quality present bat speed with the ability to work into the gaps, something he showed off in this game by doubling up the right-center gap.

Abraham Samuel Fortis Osorio (2024 SS, Conyers, GA) is a talented position player who also showed some things to like on the mound, running his fastball up to 85 mph and getting swings and misses with it.

59-Columbia Blue vs. 60-Gray

12/29/2023

Brayden Grass (2024 RHP, Hanna, IN) was electric on the mound in his first-ever PG event, working mid-80's up to 86 mph with big life from a deceptive slot. He has good arm speed and feel to spin his slider, attacked the strike zone, and generally had a stress-free outing.

Jake LaPorte (2024 RHP, Pittsburgh, PA) showed strong pitchability and a projectable frame at 6-2/200. He attacked the strike zone at a good clip and touched 81 mph on his fastball, moving it around the zone and attacking hitters in the process. He landed a curveball for strikes, and was comfortable getting ahead in counts.

Logan Sanchez (2024 C, Lake Mary, FL) absolutely tore up defensive workouts behind the plate earlier and swung a hot stick in the game, picking up a well-struck double. He has huge arm strength behind the plate and overall stands out both defensively and offensively.

Gavin Deaver (2024 RHP, Parkland, FL) has a lot of funk and deception and pitched well, working up to 78 mph on his fastball with huge sink, generating whiffs and weak contact on the pitch vs. hitters of either handedness. He's quite slender and has the room to pack on strength, so it's easy to envision a velo spike here eventually as well. He punched 5 in 3 innings.

Graham Hughson (2024 OF, Edmonton, AB) has a physical frame and plenty of strength in his righthanded bat, showing that off in this one. He picked up a couple of base hits, both of which came off the barrel and were struck well, showing good strength in his hands and feel for moving the bat around the hitting zone.

60-Gray vs. 61-Green Highlights

12/29/2023

Justin Tranum (2024 OF, Spring Hill, FL) was dominant in his time on the mound, running his fastball up to 82 mph from the left side with big life and consistently missing bats with his slider, a pitch he could land for strikes or bury to get whiffs over the top of it.

Nelson Zapata (2024 OF, Charlotte, NC) took one of the louder swings of the day, driving a double deep to left field down the line in one of his at-bats. He's a strong, physical righthanded hitter who stood out earlier in batting practice as well.

Mathieu Fisher (2024 LHP, Quebec, CAN) has a quick stroke and showed it off to lead off the game, getting a barrel out and hitting a liner for a base knock. He's also a solid lefty arm who had a solid stint on the mound in this one.

Brooks Neuhoff (2024 3B, Morton, IL) took a good swing in this one with a hard liner base hit to show for it. Neuhoff has developed well physically since our last showcase look at him and is already impacting the ball in a more dynamic way.

12/29 Batting Practice Blog

12/29/2023

Joshmar Carbonell (2024 SS, Guanica, PR)- Compact MIF frame with present strength in both halves, lofted some baseballs to deep centerfield and produced consistent hard contact with a linedrive driven stroke.

Eddie Johnson (2024 RHP, Algonquin, IL)- Listed primary RHP here produced a really solid round of BP, using the whole 6'3/210 frame to generate some pop and lift baseballs to the middle of the field. Fluid and natural stroke, interesting to see the two way potential once he gets a look on the bump.

Logan Sanchez (2024 C, Lake Mary, FL)- Big raw power showing here, capping off the round with a bomb to the deepest part of left field over the green wall in a gap. Physically built backstop, interesting to see the in game power and how it translates. Currently holds a commitment to Southern.

Jerameel Brisuenos (2024 OF, Bayamon, PR)- Well built, lean looking prospect here that produced a solid round of BP. Lot of linedrive contact to the middle of the field and some backside gappers, on time and consistently on the barrel. Good feel to control it and impact it.

Jonathan Rodriguez (2024 SS, Newark, NJ)- Simple and direct right handed stroke designed for MOF line drive contact, executed it well here in BP. Lot of consistent barrels, should hit in game with the current look of the swing.

Nelson Zapata (2024 OF, Charlotte, NC)- Very good body at 6'1/180 and has a pretty swing to match, gets the hips engaged nicely and flows through the sequence of the swing to contact. Real projectable qualities present, should be an interesting long term follow and secure a commitment sooner rather than later.

Abraham Samuel Fortis Osorio (2024 SS, Conyers, GA)- Long and lean with projection to the frame, clean swing with good sequencing throughout. Solid LD contact to the pull-side pretty consistently here, gets in a good position to launch.

Edgardo Y. Alvarez-Deming (2024 OF, Las Piedras, PR)- Effective contact driven swing, simple and flat path works well for him and creates good results. Simple parts, components work well; understands body and current strength.

Travis Stroud II (2024 OF, Atlanta, GA)- Functional swing and path, released the barrel consistently and worked the middle part of the field. Has some lean strength, will be interesting to see once he begins to lift the baseball more and work the RF Gap; components here to project on long term.

Denzel Linares (2024 2B, Hialeah Gardens, FL)- Real foundation here if he can put on some muscle, swing works well for him with bat speed and hard contact to pull side. Lengthy frame, good monitor follow here.
