Green, Red, White Highlights

6-Green

Alex Shaw (2027 2B, Ovilla, TX) showed some intriguing stuff in his outing going 2 strong innings with 2ks. He mainly sat around 75 and was able to locate. He mixed in a sweeping slider with some bite and was able to get hitters to chase.

7-Red

Shade Cody (2027 C, Soper, OK) was a big-time strike thrower during his outing striking out the side in his first inning of work. He continued to dominate as he struck out the side in the second inning as well. Cody sat 72-74 and was able to locate all around the zone. He mixed in a little breaker that he was able to get over for strikes as well.

Cannon Colley (2027 SS, Edmond, OK) found the barrel on a ball up and in the zone driving it back up the middle. He showed that he could handle higher velocity. Quick hands with some strength in the bat.

Joshua Joyner (2027 3B, Midland, TX) made a great diving play to his left at third during game action and got up quickly firing to first on time. Showed good instincts and good reaction time over at the hot corner. Joyner also took the mound and went 2 strong innings with 5ks. He had good looking stuff including a curve and change.

David Alberda (2027 RHP, Atoka, OK) found a solid barrel shooting the ball back up the middle for an easy base hit. He would then come around to score later that inning.

8-White

Grant Boren (2027 C, Austin, TX) came out firing off the bump sitting 80-82 with some subtle run on the fastball. He struck out the side in his first inning of work and finished the day with 4 total strikeouts. He was able to locate extremely well within the zone and forced a ton of late swings. Boren mixed in a curve that seems to be developing some depth. He was able to drop this pitch in for strikes at times. Highly athletic looking player with confidence on the mound.

Joshua Wheatfall (2028 SS, Kerrville, TX) had a good outing on the day going 2 strong shutout innings with 3ks. Fastball sat 76-79 and touched 80 once. He mixed in a curve and a change as well. Both pitches were used effectively and kept hitters off balance. The command and control were both there as he threw strikes at a 78% rate. Plenty to project on here.

Red V. White Highlights

5/27/2023

Nicholas McBryde (’27, Lantana, Tex.)- the 5-foot-3, 106-pound right-handed hitter went 2-for-2 with a run batted in and a run scored in the Team Red 3-2 win. A primary second baseman, McBryde singled to leftfield to score the first run of the game. He advanced to second base and then stole third base before scored on a wild pitch to put Team Red up 2-0 in the top of the first inning. McBryde singled to centerfield later in the game with two strikeouts after fouling off some tough pitches to keep the at-bat alive.

Anthony Rodriguez (’26, Leander, Tex.)- the 5-foot-10, 145-pound primary outfielder, ran the fastball up to 79 mph while on the bump for two innings of relief as a secondary right-handed pitcher. He finished his outing with one run allowed on two hits with three strikeouts. A solid relief outing from Rodriguez where he sat in the upper-70s and featured a breaking ball in the 66-69 mph range for Team White.

Calvin Garrett (’27, Burleson, Tex.)- the 6-foot-1, 205-pound primary first baseman was 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored. Garrett got the start for Team Red as a secondary right-handed pitcher and got the win with one run allowed on two hits in the 3-2 victory. He finished with a strikeout running the fastball up to 74 mph and breaking bowl in the low-60s. His double helped his own cause with a bullet into right-centerfield that rolled to the wall.

Jose Villegas Jr. (’27, Corpus Christi, Tex.)- singled and scored one of the two runs in his only plate appearance for Team White in the 3-2 loss to Team Red. The 5-foot-5, 115-pound shortstop recorded one of the eight hits for Team White and despite outhitting Team Red 8-4, they had to settle with a loss in Game 2 action.

Green V. Red Highlights

5/27/2023

David Alberda (’27, Atoka, Okla.)- the 5-foot-9, 162-pound right-handed pitcher punched out five over three hitless innings in a start for Team Red. He retired all nine batters he faced without allowing a ball to leave the infield. Alberda ran the fastball up to 79 mph and showcased a breaking ball in the 62-66 mph range to avoid barrels and limit contact. Team Red would go on to win 2-0 with Alberda getting the win as they pushed across a run in the bottom of the third inning.

Nathan Bianchi (’27, Crowley, Tex.) and Shade Cody (’27, Soper, Okla.)- hit back-to-back triples for Team Red in the third inning to score the first run of the game. Bianchi, a 5-foot-7, 157-pound right-handed hitting outfielder tripled to right-centerfield with one out and the bases empty. The 5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher Cody then tripled down the leftfield line to give Team Red all the run support they would need in a 2-0 victory. Team Red finished the win with only three hits, all coming via the three-bagger. Second baseman Owen Au-Yeung (’27, McKinney, Tex.), a 5-foot-6, 140-pound right-handed hitting second baseman collected the third triple of the game and scored one of the two runs to secure the win.

Bailey Huber (’27, Midlothian, Tex.)- the 5-foot-9, 139-pound left-handed outfielder made two great defensive plays in centerfield for Team Red to secure a 2-0 win. Huber showed first-step quickness with clean breaks and plus route running to make both grabs and rob extra bases in the hard-fought victory.

Cannon Colley (’27, Edmond, Okla.)- the 6-foot, 160-pound shortstop and right-handed pitcher made an amazing defensive play at third base early in the game before coming on to close out the win with two scoreless innings on the bump. Colley dove for a ball down the third base line and threw a strike from his backside all the way across the diamond to first base to record the out. He displayed quick reflexes and under control actions on the play, and showcased arm strength and athleticism to record the out. Colley ran the fastball up to 74 mph on the bump in relief and used a breaking ball in low-60s to keep Team Red in the lead with a pair of strikeouts to get the save in the 2-0 victory.

White V. Green Highlights

Game Blog: Game 3- Team White vs. Team Green

Joshua Wheatfall (’28, Kerrville, Tex.)- the 6-foot, 150-pound right-handed hitter went 2-for-2 with a triple and a single in two plate appearances for Team White. The athletic shortstop scored two runs and knocked in another in the 9-0 victory. His triple was hit deep into left field that two-hopped the wall and the single went centerfield. After his single in the 4th inning, Wheatfall stole second and scored on a short fly-ball single to rightfield with a good read and instincts on the basepaths.

Brendan Arata (’27, Trophy Club, Tex.)- the 5-foot-4, 150-pound right-handed hitter singled in his lone plate appearance to leftfield. The primary catcher shortened the stroke with two strikes and turned on a fastball in to get one of the three hits Team Green recorded in the loss.

Grant Boren (’27, Austin, Tex.)- the 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting backstop was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored for Team White. He was right in the middle of a pair of rallies with a single to centerfield and a double down the leftfield line. Boren also showed pocket awareness behind the plate with his receiving skills and threw a runner out at second base for a caught stealing on a tough pitch in the dirt and a 2.18 pop time.

Brysen Samsill (’28, Burleson, Tex.)- the 5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting third baseman finished 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two runs batted in, and a run scored. Both of his doubles were bullets down the leftfield line with extension out front and barrel release for Team White.

Batting Practice Highlights

5/27/2023

Kolson Tomlinson (2027 C, Stephenville, TX) showed some quickness in his swing with good rhythm to be consistently out on the front side on time and turns it over pretty comfortably at his young age already.

Dylan Smith (2026 3B, Fort Worth, TX) took one of the better rounds with a clean stroke, good length, strength at impact and quality bat speed already; he uncoils well and the bat speed stands out a bunch.

David Alberda (2027 RHP, Atoka, OK) has good size and moves clean to the front side while showing some hand speed and impacted some balls well to the pull side and middle.

Cannon Colley (2027 SS, Edmond, OK) has really fast hands already and although he's thin and lacks real impact, the bat speed projects in a big way as he's already well connected and will grow into strength well.

Nicholas McBryde (2027 2B, Lantana, TX) is very much on the small end physically but shows real poise in the box and a control of the barrel/understanding of the approach well above his age and size.

Shade Cody (2027 C, Soper, OK) has loose wrists and a really heavy barrel showing he can stay under control, adjust well and impact the baseball hard on a line already all over the field.

Matthew Patterson (2028 SS, Round Rock, TX) pulls the barrel through with good quickness and strength and showed he can work to both gaps with some lift and backspin while being a 13U guy.

Justin Garcia (2028 1B, Corpus Christi, TX) got out front on time with the barrel often and showed a consistency in squaring it with quickness that stood out a good bit in the young group.

Anthony Rodriguez (2026 OF, Leander, TX) has good size and already really torques well while showing looseness and bat speed to project good things on.

Grant Boren (2027 C, Austin, TX) stood out across the board and his size/strength already gives him big pieces to go with the bat speed he already has and his ability to impact the ball hard.
