Batting Practice Highlights

10/22/2022

William Johnson (2024 1B, Harrodsburg, KY) has good strength in his 6-0/180 swing and a pretty direct hand path to the ball.  The ball comes off the left-handed hitter's barrel hard, especially when pulling the ball.

Jake Musgjerd (2026 3B, Excelsior, MN) is a left handed hitter with good coil and lower half use in his swing.  His hands work well through the ball and he gets nice extension out front.  He'll keep getting better as he keeps getting stronger.

Brett Novlesky (2024 3B, Fortson, GA)  has a big and strong 6-2/200 build and has a very well timed swing that enabled him to square up the ball consistently.  He showed the ability to pull the ball in the air and get some carry.

Justin Orridge (2024 OF, Cocoa Beach, FL) has very good present bat speed and the type of aggressiveness you like to see in a young hitter.  He turns his hips hard and tight and creates hard barrel contact with good power when he pulls it.

Wyatt Ewanowski (2023 OF, Lutz, FL) has some mature strength in his 5-11/185 build and a short hands driven swing with a tight hip turn.  The ball comes off his barrel hard  with some gap to gap carry and he squares the ball up often due to his simple swing mechanics.

Austin Knierim (2026 2B, Brooksville, FL) has lots of growing to do from his present 5-10/140 swing but he has a really nice swing that creates surprising bat speed and barrel whip for his age and size.  He really projects well as he gets stronger.

Carter Cumming (2025 C, Spring Hill, TN) hits from an under control swing approach with good lower half use and consistent timing.  The left-handed hitter is really going to blossom when he gets stronger and learns to fully commit to his swing and fire his hands hard.

Breyden Turnage (2025 1B, Dyersburg, TN) really stands out with his 6-8/225 build that looks like a starter kid for an NFL tight end.  He gets into his lower half well and creates plenty of lift in his swing with obvious power potential.

John Mark Grissom (2025 2B, Pearl, MS) has a strong and compact 5-9/170 build and uses that strength well to create bat speed.  He hits with a dominant top hand and consistently pulled the ball hard to top spin line drive carry.

Tucker Bearden (2025 C, Lakeland, TN) has a busy load to his swing but there is a lot of rhythm to it and he's able to repeat his timing and path well.  He has good present bat speed with more to come and got some line drive jump off the barrel.
