Gold vs. Columbia Blue Game Highlights

Justin Wood (2024 RHP, Winnetka, IL) is a projectable young prospect with high upside. He stands at a long and lanky 6-foot-4, and there is plenty of room to fill and physical projection to dream upon in the frame. He topped out at 84 mph and featured a hammer 12-6 shaped curveball. 

Connor Capece (2023 C, Omaha, NE) stood out in all facets of the game today. He put together quite the performance on the bump, running his fastball up to 91 mph and making it look easy. His arm speed is advanced, and he flashed a wipeout curveball with sharp vertical drop. He was also impressive with the bat, collected multiple loud barrels to all parts of the field.

Jackson Gutta (2023 RHP, Omaha, NE) flashed a solid three-pitch mix during his outing, proving that he can miss bats with both his curveball and changeup. The arm speed certainly stands out, and he has a good chance to continue to build strength in his lean 6-foot, 175-pound frame. 

Johnny McArthur (2022 RHP, Kirkwood, MO) is an intriguing uncommitted prospect who should drum up some attention after his performance today. He ran his fastball up to 84 mph, and there is plenty more velocity development to come in his physical 6-foot-4, 215-pound. His curveball has shown great signs of improvement as well.

Matthew Richert (2024 RHP, Chicago, IL) stands at an uber-projectable 6-foot-4, 178-pounds, and there are plenty of pieces to like moving forward. He utilizes a short arm action that comes through clean, and he flashed a curveball with 11-5 shape and a changeup with fade, in addition to his fastball that topped out at 82 mph.

Grant Miller (2024 RHP, Urbandale, IA) put together a solid performance on the bump for the Gold team, sitting 82-84 mph and showing a loose and whippy arm with present arm speed. The ball really jumps out of his hand, making for a heavy fastball that gets on hitters quick. His secondary offering was a sharp curveball with late action and 11-5 shape. 

Riley Thuringer (2023 1B, Shakopee, MN) stands at a strong and physical 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, and that strength translated well in game, both offensively and on the mound. He ran his fastball up to 84 mph from the right side, showing a heavy fastball and a wipeout breaking ball. At the plate, he did a nice job of staying back on a low and outside pitch, smoking one into the right-center field gap.

Brett Harris (2026 C, Peosta, IA) was certainly not outmatched by his older competition, as he found multiple barrels throughout the day. He creates good separation in his left-handed swing, showing present bat speed and strength in the hands. Most of his hard contact was to the opposite field, showing a mature approach at the plate.


Navy vs. Red Game Highlights

Devon Cook (2024 LHP, Dubuque, IA) earned a hard single up the middle after a long at bat today.  He keeps his weight back well which allows him to sit on off speed pitches and fight off tough pitches to hit.

Gianni Corral (2026 C, Grapevine, TX) found a pair of nice barrels to the opposite field during his live at bats today.  He does a nice job of staying short and quick to the baseball which allows him to let the ball travel deep into the hitting zone.

Maddux Lessard (2027 C, Muskego, WI) showed nice toughness at the plate, recording a hard base hit after getting hit by a pitch earlier in the at bat.  He has good barrel accuracy and makes hard contact consistently at the plate.

Andrew Johnson (2024 RHP, Marengo, IL) showed nice discipline at the plate, letting an outside fastball get deep into the zone before sending it into the right center field for a single the other way.  He is a disciplined hitter and trusts his hands, allowing him to make contact to all parts of the field.

Zack Turpin (2024 RHP, Waukee, IA) was aggressive at the plate today, jumping all over the first pitch twice during his at bats.  The first at bat resulted in a hard line drive into right center field, and the second was a screaming line drive back up the middle.

Troy Ryan Poppitz (2024 RHP, Chaska, MN) was on time consistently during his at bats today.  He sent a pair of screaming liners back up the middle for base hits.  He has a short swing and stays on balance at the plate, making his swing easily repeatable.

Luke Bockenfeld (2024 RHP, Long Grove, IA) showed the ability to square up the low pitch, finding two barrels at the bottom of the zone.  He was able to recognize an off speed pitch in his second at bat, keeping his weight back before sending it into the right-center field gap.

Dylan Swanson (2024 LHP, Blair, NE) took advantage of a first pitch fastball that caught too much of the plate, scorching a ball down the first base line for what would have been a base hit.  He did a nice job of staying inside the baseball and getting the barrel around on it.

Michael Clarkson (2023 C, Lake Forest, IL) showed his two-way potential today, impressing both at the plate and on the mound.  Offensively, he found several loud barrels that would have resulted in extra base hits.  He keeps his weight back and explodes on mistakes left over the plate.  On the mound, sat 84-86 mph with his fastball and pairs it with a 76 mph slider with horizontal cut.

Christopher Petersen (2024 RHP, Clive, IA) has a tall and projectable frame with plenty of room to fill.  He works in line with the plate well on the mound and was able to sit 81-83 mph with his fastball, touching 84 mph once.  He also mixed in a nice two seam fastball that features running action similar to a changeup.  He tunnels his pitches well and showed nice control of his curveball also.


Batting Practice Highlights

Brett Harris (2026 C, Peosta, IA) has a clean swing that allows him to stay through the hitting zone with his barrel.  He has a line drive approach and stays on balance, allowing him to drive balls into the gap.

Cal Parr (2023 C, Bettendorf, IA) has a simple approach at the plate and takes his hands directly to the ball.  He has good barrel accuracy and was consistently on time, making hard, line drive contact throughout his round.

Riley Thuringer (2023 1B, Shakopee, MN) has a tall frame with long levers that he uses to make the ball jump of his bat when he is able to get extended.  He has power to the pull side and will continue to add strength as he fills out.

Connor Capece (2023 C, Omaha, NE) is a presently strong athlete that utilizes his body well.  He has quick hands that allow him to whip the barrel through the zone, making powerful contact to all parts of the field.  He also showed the ability to elevate the ball.

Andrew Nykoluk (2025 RHP, Davenport, IA) does a nice job of utilizing his lower half, firing his hips well during his swing.  He pairs his efficient lower half with a smooth upper half and stays through the baseball well.

Christopher Petersen (2024 RHP, Clive, IA) showed good pull side power during his batting practice round.  He has a tall frame with long levers and was able to make consistent, hard contact out in front of the plate.

Dylan Swanson (2024 LHP, Blair, NE) does a nice job of shifting his weight through the swing, showing easy power, especially to the pull side.  He has quick hands that whip the barrel through the zone and is on time consistently.

Michael Clarkson (2023 C, Lake Forest, IL) has a mature approach at the plate, living gap to gap with his line drives.  He does a nice job of firing his hips and stays short at the plate.  The ball jumps off his bat and will carry into the gaps.

Gianni Corral (2026 C, Grapevine, TX) has tons of twitch in his body and it showed during batting practice.  His quick hands lead the barrel through the zone and causes the ball to pop off his bat.  He has room to fill as he develops, which will lead to an increase in power.

Bradyn Delaney (2023 C, Peosta, IA) stays short to the ball with tons of barrel accuracy, leading to line drive contact throughout his round.  He has a line drive approach and does a nice job of staying on balance, driving the ball into both gaps.

Cole Southard (2024 RHP, Des Moines, IA) is able to stay on balance at the plate and utilize the entire field.  He has good timing and patience, allowing him to keep his weight back before jumping on baseballs, hitting them where they are pitched.

Maddux Lessard (2027 C, Muskego, WI) shifts his weight well through his swing and generates tons of power for his age.  He looks to elevate and takes advantage of pitches left over the inner half.

Zack Turpin (2024 RHP, Waukee, IA) is a switch hitter that shows a ton of power potential.  He has quick hands and fires his hips well, creating tons of bat speed through the zone.  He has good barrel accuracy and the ability to hit any pitch.

Troy Ryan Poppitz (2024 RHP, Chaska, MN) is presently strong and utilizes his strength well.  He fires his lower half well and makes contact out in front of the plate, lining the ball deep into the gaps.  He does a nice job of staying on balance and keeping his weight back before jumping on pitches.
