What a year for the ’23 class, as we have seen these young prospects grow right in front of our eyes. Many have added positive notes to their respective resumes, with some even making huge jumps in the rankings. Now, let’s dive into and highlight some of the most impressive performances of the year as we nominate those who have stood out from a statistical standpoint.

Of the 62 names mentioned, they have accumulated just shy of 400 All-Tournament Team awards. Some were in the double digits with Tate McKee, Cristopher Morales, Luke Dotson, Chris Billingsley, Logan Bryson, Jacob Haley, Frankie Kern, and Grayson Baldovin all reaching that mark. Haley and Kern both led the pack with 13 All-Tournament Team accolades this year. If you peek down at some stats, the numbers are outrageous. Not a single hitter on either the first or second team dipped below an average of .325. The arms were also on full display this year as we saw some guys make big velocity jumps and really start to impose their will on hitters.  Out of the 29 pitchers mentioned, they combined for 1,789 punchouts.

The story of the year could be easily filled in by Kevin McGonigle. He had huge performances all summer and somehow ended up even having a stronger fall. McGonigle hit .479 on the year with an OPS of 1.442. This fall, he received MVP of WWBA Underclass World Championship and the very next week, he hit .429 in Jupiter and received All-Tournament honors again. He also shot up in the rankings and is shaping up to be a high-level draft prospect come next season.

Pitcher of the Year was none other than Chance Mako of the South Charlotte Panthers. The right-hander was electric this summer as he dominated some of the best bats in the country. The NC State commit wasn’t done, as his fall performance was one to remember. He made a start in the playoffs at the WWBA Underclass World Championship and put on a show. In 6 innings pitched, he struck out 16 without walking a batter or giving up a hit. His performance ended up earning him the MV-Pitcher award and was the cherry on top to a phenomenal year.

Player of the Year: Kevin McGonigle

Pitcher of the Year: Chance Mako

With that being said, let’s take a deeper dive into some of the top performers of the year.
