15u Midwest Day 1-2 Scout Notes

Brady Ginaven (2022 Munster, Ind.) worked four innings for the Morris Chiefs in their first game of the weekend. Featuring a projectable, athletic delivery with good arm speed to go along with his 6-foot-4 frame, Ginaven showed an impressive two-pitch mix including a fastball up to 83 mph and a curveball with 11-to-5 shape. Ginaven allowed no runs while striking out six in his four innings of work.

An Arkansas commit, Colton Sims (2022 Russellville, Ark.) came out swinging early for the Arkansas Sticks collecting four hits in the first two days of the tournament including a loud home run to the right-center field gap. He also made multiple impressive plays in the infield showing clean glove actions and good arm strength.

Jordan Huskey (2022 Quitman, Ark.), along lefty, didn’t allow any runs in his 6 2/3 innings of work while only allowing two hits and striking out eight. Huskey led the Sticks to the victory behind his fastball thrown for consistent strikes to both sides of the plate up to 81 mph and a sweeping 1-to-7 curveball freezing hitters consistently at 70 mph.

A very athletic 2022 grad, Bobby Walker (2022, Ozark, Ark.) showed a fast, compact swing this weekend collecting three hits including two singles and a double all off loud driven line drives. Normally patrolling the outfield for the Sticks, the Missouri commit has made his fair share of impressive plays with multiple catches showing his good range.

A native of Jonesboro, Arkansas Josh Hyneman (2022 Jonesbro, Ark.) has shown impressive pull-side power with his high intent swing, looking to do damage every time a pitch is thrown to him. In his 11 plate appearances this weekend Hyneman collected a hit in six of those with two loud doubles to the pull side.

Jake Gonse (2022 Anoka, Minn.) showed a love for the pull-side foul line this weekend, showing the ability to get the barrel head out with good bat speed. Gonse had three hits all for loud, driven doubles down the right field line.

Billy Jones Jr.(2022 Portage, Ind.) was big for the Morris Chiefs in pool play posting a .545 batting average with six hits including two doubles. In his last double of pool play Jones flashed good pull-side power, driving a line drive down the right field line and stretching a sure single into a double with his impressive speed.

Will Plattner (2022 Chatham, Ill.) flashed plus pull-side power in pool play multiple times collecting two extra-base hits and multiple other loud base hits. The most impressive hit of the weekend was a drive to the fence in right center field for a triple, not only showing his gap-to-gap power but his speed as well.

Austin Jobe (2022 El, Dorado Ark.) was lights out for the Arkansas Sticks in his 3 1/3 innings of work. The young righty showed a very athletic delivery with polished mechanics, getting extended out front well. He features a two-pitch mix, collecting two strikeouts while only allowing one walk on the day. Jobe showed a fastball with downhill plane and arm-side run through the zone up to 82 mph.

Cangelosi Sparks White’s cleanup hitter and starting catcher Harrison Scroggins (2022, New Lenox, Ill.) showed great power this weekend. The strong 5-foot-10, 190-pound righthanded hitter sent multiple balls to the left-center gap for extra-base hits, with speed around the bases. He is noisy in the box with lots of hand movement before the pitch is delivered. His athletic frame works well behind the plate as well, showing great receiving and blocking skills.

MN Icemen – Sutterer’s Kyle Law (2022, Andover, Minn.) had a productive start to the weekend, contributing to his team’s No. 2 seed in this tournament’s playoffs. Law’s great bat speed allowed him to put a few hard hit balls in play, batting .400 so far. With a closed, crouched stance and good bat-to-ball skills, Law showed great plate discipline, walking three times and also showing some foot speed, swiping two bags. His slim, athletic build should allow for more power to develop with age.
