Dothan Baseball Club (Kirkland Sports Performance) makes it's return to the PGNIL after winning a National Title in 2015. Dothan Grey, in particular had a rough season but has shown signs of promise while hitting for a team average of .379. This team is another that may make a surprise run if they can get some timely hits. The team is very balanced and there really isn't a  weakspot in the lineup. This #2/#15 game may be closer than some think.

Mekhian and his brother Jaeden have both put together fine seasons, hitting .449 and .423 respectively. This is another team that could be poised for a deep playoff run if they can find timely base hits. They are hitting .435 as a team, which ranks them 6th as a team in the league....much higher than their #13 overall seed.

The reigning National Champions at the 14U level and 3x repeating Champions at multiple levels, PG Red comes in as facility runner-ups at a very impressive 10-2 record. They are led by the country's #125 ranked player in the class of 2021 in Coy Sarsfield, who has hit for a .476 clip this season. Ty Carlson has been another that has looked really good this year as well, hitting .543 (5th in the Nation) and mashing a HR. If anyone wants to win a title, this 3X reigning Champion team will be someone they have to go through.

Dothan White has hit an incredible .459 this year, 4th in the league despite only having 5 wins. The 16U division looks to be as strong as it's ever been. Dothan White has 2 hitters hitting over .500 in Lance Levine and Anthony Anderson, bothing hitting .512 and tied for 9th Nationally. If PG Red wants to bring home another title, they have to come to play against this #12 seed.

If you want to talk about consistancy and similarities, this is the team to do it. Ripa, Protaskey and Griese have been some of the main cogs of this team and their #'s are all eerily similar. Avg velo is so similar that it only differs by .1 mph between the 3 of them. They have all also hit for a similar average, ranging just 34 percentage points between the 3 of them. As a full team, they are hitting .463, which ranks 3rd Nationally. This will be a very difficult out for the #6 seed Dothan Blue.

The only team with a bye in the 16U division is Facility Champion Dothan Black out of Dothan Baseball Club in Dothan, Alabama. This team is absolutely loaded with all hitters above or near .500. They have arguably the best player in the league in Jake Killingsworth (1st in both velo catagories, batting average and RBI's) and they have shown they can put up a lot of runs, averaging over 11 runs per game. They have scored 38 runs more than any nearest competitor (98, Southworth Red) and stout a team average of .501. These guys look to be the team to beat!

Dawson Weller (2027, Ottumwa, IA) showcased his two-way potential with a strong performance this weekend. On the mound, worked two clean innings while striking out 3 consistently living in the zone and getting ahead with first-pitch strikes. Showed the ability to control tempo and attack hitters throughout the outing. At the plate made a big impact in the same game, collecting two doubles and a home run. Displays quick hands through the zone with the ability to connect on an uphill path and generate carry off the barrel. A well-rounded showing that highlighted impact on both sides of the ball. Will Frederiksen (2026, Bettendorf, IA) had a loud weekend at the plate, launching 2 home runs and showing real impact with the bat. The amateur players in the Cape Cod Baseball League are the future stars of the 2027 MLB Draft. The league runs from June 13th through August 2nd. Games are played at historic stadiums in Old New England towns. It’s beautiful and charming. Hollywood even made a movie about the Cape Cod League ~25 years ago called Summer Catch. It scored an 8% (!) on Rotten Tomatoes, but, on the plus side, it featured 2001 Jessica Biel in a starring role.  It was so much fun writing Coppy’s Column this spring. My hope is to highlight a pitcher and position player each week from the Cape. Angel Cervantes | RHP | UCLA | Chatham Anglers  Angel Cervantes has lived up to the hype since arriving at UCLA after turning down a second-round selection (50th overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2025 MLB Draft. Following a strong freshman campaign that helped power the Bruins to the No. 1 ranking in the country for much of the season, Cervantes has taken another step forward this summer, emerging as arguably the Cape Cod League's top arm. Through 23.2 innings with the Chatham Anglers, he owns a 1.14 ERA with 24 strikeouts and just five walks. Bryce Urban (2027, Kaukauna, Wis.) An athletic 5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitter, who handled the bat well throughout the weekend while showing feel for the barrel and quality bat speed. Stays balanced throughout the operation while showing direct hands to the baseball. Kai Anderson (2028, Missouri City, Texas) continued his breakout stretch over the past couple of weeks with 2028 South Texas Sliders 16U Pierce. Compiled a 7-15 week with two doubles, a triple, and two home runs, driving in nine runs. Parlayed that into winning Tournament MVP. Physical presence in the box that is starting to tap into a ton of juice offensively. Tight rotation on an uphill plane with loose actions in the barrel. Doing all of this with very little swing and miss while holding it down in center field. One of the louder stretches of the summer. 2026 MLB Draft Signing Deadline Recap

As of Monday at 5 p.m. ET, the 2026 MLB Draft is officially complete. The signing deadline has passed, meaning we now know every team’s finalized draft class and exactly how much each player signed for. Entering the draft, it was clear there was a distinct top tier consisting of Roch Cholowsky, Grady Emerson, and Vahn Lackey. That separation became even more evident once contracts were signed. Cholowsky became the first player in draft history to sign for more than $10 million, agreeing to a record-setting $10,347,500 bonus with the White Sox. Emerson set a new high school signing bonus record at $9,747,500, the second-largest bonus ever awarded to a draft pick. Lackey rounded out the trio with a $9,497,500 bonus, the third-largest signing bonus in MLB Draft history. Those weren’t the only records set. Excel Blue Wave National wasn’t leaving Hoover empty-handed.  At least, that was the message head coach Wes Henderson gave his team.  After a summer filled with strong performances but without a tournament title to show for them, Excel Blue Wave National entered the 2026 15U Perfect Game Hoover Classic with one more opportunity to finish the season the way they wanted.  This time, they left no doubt.  Excel Blue Wave National defeated East Coast Sox 2029 Victus, 12-0 in the championship game, combining a balanced offensive attack with a strong performance on the mound to secure their first tournament title of the summer.  “It’s been a special group,” Coach Henderson said. “They fought really hard, and they played really well this summer, and this is the first championship that we’ve been able to bring home.
