East Cobb/Padres Explode Late for Jupiter Win

East Cobb/SD Padres ST Explode Late for WWBA Worlds Win

A hard-fought, crazy ending resulted in the East Cobb/SD Padres scout team coming back and winning the 2026 PG WWBA World Championship over the SBA/Marlins Scout Team 2028. The score was 8-7 after the championship was won with a walk-off balk.

After going against some of the most talented, highly-ranked players in the country for the past couple days, it was finally time for the championship game at Roger Dean Complex Stadium in Jupiter, FL. The WWBA World Championship, or, as it’s more commonly and lovingly referred to as, “Jupiter,” has become a favorite for all who have been part of its iconic, golf-cart infested, electric atmosphere. This championship game was sure to entertain.

The first two innings were scoreless for both teams as they got settled. Both defenses were making plays - SBA/Marlins executed a double play in the bottom of the first and East Cobb’s right-hander Jose Doubront struck out 2 batters in the top of the second.

SBA/Marlins were the first to get a run on the board after a single from Jacob Reynolds brought home Ashton Pittman, who had led off the inning with a walk.

In the bottom of the third, Christopher (CJ) Wall doubled to left to score East Cobb’s first run and tie things up.

Neither team could come up with any runs in the fourth, but SBA/Marlins’ lefty Tyler Robinson struck out the side to give his team positive momentum - which Peyton Tarlton parlayed into a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth.

Despite a couple singles, East Cobb stayed off the board in the bottom frame.

But SBA/Marlins kept their offense rolling in the sixth inning - with Dariel Carrion singling to score one, a walk scoring Luke Esquivel, and Derek Vazquez and Carrion rushing home on wild pitches.

The score was now 7-1 in SBA/Marlins’ favor. Though things may have seemed bleak on the outside looking in, East Cobb was still holding out hope - despite no runs scoring in the bottom of the sixth.

“The whole time we were kind of up in the dugout saying how we were good enough, regardless of what the score was,” East Cobb’s Jonah Winton said.

“I think it was more so just the whole team was like, ‘hey, we’ve scored this whole tournament. We’ve been scoring 10 runs,” Wall, the eventual tournament MVP said, talking about the atmosphere in the dugout. “We’ve been hitting the ball throughout the whole tournament’…even those last couple innings before we scored, it’s like, ‘hey guys, we’ve scored 20 runs before… let’s go. We got to pick it up. We’ve done crazier things. Crazier things have happened.’

Everybody’s just staying up, staying positive…we all had ultimate confidence that no matter what, we were going to find a way to score runs. We didn’t really think we were going to lose. It was just a matter of when we scored.”

“Towards the beginning of the game, you saw a lot of those big swings, trying to hit the ball out, get a big-hero-moment hit, but we just kept reminding each other, ‘one run in a six-run difference isn’t going to win the game,’” Winton said. “So the approach kind of changed from big hits to, ‘how can we get on base?’ Whether it’s getting hit, whether it’s getting walked, whether it’s just getting a single up the middle or just moving a runner - ‘what can help us keep moving?’”

Their faith led to smart at-bats, as Caden Dawson and Doubront walked to get two on. Wesley Moering plated Dawson with a single. Brue Milner was up to bat - but the first pitch was wild and allowed another runner to score. Milner walked, Justice Morrison walked - and with the bases loaded, SBA/Marlins changed their pitcher as Winton stepped up to the plate for his first at-bat of the game.

“I wasn’t originally in the lineup,” Winton explained. “Kevin told me that I was going to hit. I prepared myself well for the week, felt like I was ready to go out there.

I knew patience was going to be something for sure. Take until I see a strike, make the pitcher throw to me instead of helping him out…what I was looking for was just to drive something through a hole somewhere, whether it was in the gap in the outfield or just through the four-hole on the right side of the infield - to get that runner from third plenty of time to get home...I had CJ hitting after me. He kind of caught on fire on the last day, so I knew if I got the bat to him, he’d pass it to the next guy…my approach was just to do my part to get it to the next guy.”

With an even count, Winton singled to right field to plate Moering and Harris. This brought Wall to the batter’s box - who was the game-winning run.

Wall talked about his mindset stepping up to the plate:

“I just went up there and was like, ‘you know what? I don’t really have to do anything special at all. I have two guys behind me that are gonna do the job just as good as I can.’ So I went up there with supreme confidence, and I got a first pitch fastball that I missed. But after that, I was like, ‘alright, I have to bear down and just do my job for the team. It’s not about how far I can try and hit this ball. I just have to put something in play or draw another walk and keep the momentum alive.’”

Again, with an even count, Wall tied up the game with a single to bring home Morrison and Winton.

Just like that, the score was 7-7. SBA/Marlins decided to walk the next two batters to load the bases once again for Carson Bruce. No one in the stands would have been able to guess what happened next.

“[The pitcher] started his windup,” Wall said, as he said he was getting ready to try to score on a passed ball, “I start taking my lead; I started getting into my secondary, and I just heard ‘balk’ called on him.

I was like, ‘what?’ And then it registered and I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, he just called a balk.’ So I walked home and about three, four steps down, I’m like, ‘holy - we just won! It’s over! We just won WWBA!”

“We were all just kind of huddled up over there, just ready to jump out of the dugout and run and celebrate with Kevin and CJ and all them,” Winton explained. “So once the balk happened, we kind of just went crazy, running all around and jumping and everything.”

“You don’t expect to score seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off the biggest tournament of the year,” East Cobb’s owner and general manager, Kevin Baldwin said. “So it kind of was a situation where everybody was just going nuts and not really understanding what was going on around, just enjoying the moment.”

This win was a special one for this long-standing team as Baldwin explained:

“The greatest thing about this group is the core group has been together since they were 12 years old, so this tournament was actually their 60th tournament win since they were 12. They all kind of have belief in themselves…this fall, we were undefeated 35-0, so they don’t know what losing is.

Perfect Game has done such a great job over the years when we’ve worked with them…I’ve been to Jupiter since the very first one, so to see it come from where it was and to where it is now, which is unbelievable - shoutout to them for doing such an unbelievable job of making this a world class event. To be able to win it is very special.”

Winton shared how much the program and Baldwin meant to him:

“Kevin took care of me all week, made sure that I had a place to stay, had travel down here because my parents didn’t come down here - my brother had a baby so they were down in Louisiana...Kevin and all the coaches just took care of us…that’s just the kind of guys they are and that’s why I feel like a lot of people want to play for East Cobb too - not just because we’re a good program, but because the coaches all cared about us, too.”

“Jonah’s been one of our guys,” Baldwin said. “We treat this as family…we always take care of our kids and make sure that they’re at all the events they need to be at.

I think the main thing that we instill at East Cobb is just life values and how to approach the game of baseball that will also help you in the same way that you approach life. You never give up, never quit and just put everything that you have into what you believe in. Hard work will get you where you need to be, and these kids have really bought into that at a young age and they all are gonna have bright futures.”

Virginia Cavaliers  2026 In Review:  Under the leadership of first year Head Coach Chris Pollard, the Cavaliers won 37 games which was the second most victories by a first-year coach in program history.  Virginia went (37-23) finishing tied for 8th in the ACC and earned an at-large bid to the Hattiesburg Regional.  They fielded a talented offense that averaged over 8-runs per game, highlighted by AJ Gracia and Eric Becker who were both selected on Day 1 of the 2026 MLB Draft.  While the defensive squad wasn’t quite as elite as usual, they were ultra-competitive on the mound with a strong rotation and lock down bullpen.  With plenty of talent returning for Pollard and his staff in ’27, they should be a force on a national level once again.  Impact Returners:    Senior Antonio Perrotta (.266/.459/.431, 5 HR, 6 2B, 24 RBI) experienced...

That Off-Season Program Wasn't Built for Your Son. It Was Built for Nobody. The Harsh Reality of Skill Development · Part 2 of 5 Somewhere right now, a pitcher is starting a twelve-week off-season program. It came from his travel team. Or a trainer. Or a big leaguer's Instagram. It has phases and a logo, and every kid in the building got the same one. Here is the harsh reality. That program was written before anybody looked at your son. It doesn't know he exists. It was built for the average pitcher... and the average pitcher does not exist. A Template Fixes Somebody's Problem. Maybe Not His. Every pitcher who is stuck is stuck for a reason. We call that reason his constraint... the thing that is actually limiting him right now. For one kid it is strength. For the next it is mobility. For the next it is a mechanical inefficiency, or an arm that isn't recovering, or a body that...

Your Son's April Arm Injury is Being Scheduled Right Now   The Harsh Reality of Skill Development - Part 1 of 5 Let me start this series with something most people in baseball won't say out loud. In my experience, a great many of the arm problems we will see next April are being set up right now... in October, November and December. Not necessarily because a young pitcher is throwing too much. Often it's because of what happens when he stops. Here is the pattern. I have watched it for more than thirty years. The fall season ends. The arm is tired, so the family does what seems like the responsible thing.  They shut it down. No throwing. For a lot of kids, no anything. Weeks go by. The holidays come and go. Then somebody looks at a calendar in January and realizes tryouts are three weeks away. Suddenly, an arm that has done nothing since October is asked to go from zero to game...
