There are players year in and year out that seize opportunities and rocket up draft boards. This sometimes happens when a void is created by weakness in a particular crop of players, and in other cases it is simply due to a player putting it all together at the right time. In the case of Braden Shipley, his ascent mostly has been due to the latter of those two. There is plenty of college pitching to compete with at the top of the class, yet Shipley has forced his way into that conversation anyway with a big spring for the University of Nevada.
